Pirates of the Caribbean : Fans' Reviews
| London premiere reports | LA premiere reports
From Kat 07/23/03
Hi! I’m Kat. I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and I am in loooooove! It is my favorite movie (and not just because of Orlando-who was the reason I saw the movie in the first place!!!!!!!!!).
I saw the trailers when I went to see another movie, and when I saw Orlando Bloom I practically DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved him sooooooooooo much from LOTR, and I was sooooo thrilled he would be a lead in POTC. Right then and there I told my mom that we NEEDED to see the movie. I was a little apprehensive since the trailer made it seem kind of creepy, and I really don’t do well with scary movies….. But Orli was more than worth it. He is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a good actor and soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly hot! No matter what he wears, no matter if he’s dirty, clean, or soaking wet (he was clean, dirty AND wet in the movie at some point-lol!) he’s the hottest man alive….
When I got out of the theater, and could not stop talking about it. I loved the action, romance (I read an article and Keira Knightly said he was a very good kisser. Weeeeeee!!!!!!!!!) the villains and the special effects. I thought the actors fit their roles like a glove. Johnny Depp was hilarious!!!! No other actor would have been as good as him. He really can deiever the funniest lines in just the right way that will make you crack up long after the movie is over!!!! Keira Knightly was perfect-the damsel in distress without the stupid helplessness. I hate those damsels in distress that act like they are made of jelly, and are about as useful as two left legs. Keira’s character was really strong. Not settling for only herself being alright, but wanting everyone else safe too. And ORLANDO BLOOM was amazing. Not only was he hothothot (as I’ve said before) but his acting skills are superb! He really gets into his character and gets all their moods down perfectly. He never slacks off and is always ready to give it his all. (He also can play characters that are completely different. Him as Legolas was sooooooooooooooo different, but just as good.)
All in all, this is my favorite movie and I am seeing it again the next second I have free!! (I plan on sticking through for the commercials-I missed the end surprise…) It rates an A+++

Hi i am Liz from Mexico. I just saw POTC last week. I just couldn't wait to see it in Mexico, so i had to see it in the states. the movie was GREAT!!!!!!!!! I had so much fun watching it. I didn't get bored once! Orlando was so hot, omg I can't believe it! I held my breath the first time he was on the screen. Johnny Depp was so funny! His character is so funny. He is such a good actor! Keira Knightly did a very good job, although i am so jealous that she got to kiss Orlando. Well, isn't everyone?
Everyone that hasn't seen this movie, go see it NOW!!
NOW I TELL YOU! You wont regret it!! :^)
From Rachel 07/21/03
Hello! I'm Rachel, and I live in Ohio. My mom told me that we were going to Disney World for vacation, and I couldn't wait! My favorite ride there had to have been Pirates of the Caribbean. When I heard that there was a movie coming out, I didn't realize that it was going to be based on the ride. But when I did find out, I was so excited! Yes, it was a Disney movie, and I don't tend to like them, but this I had to see. Then I heard that Orlando was gonna be in it.. I didn't need any more convincing than that! On July 8th, I called the theater and made sure to be at the first show on July 9th. I thought it would be sold out, but I guess no one felt like going to the same theater as me because there was barely anyone there! Anyway, what can I say about the movie? I've seen it 4 times already, and I have the urge to go see it again!
Johnny Depp - I've never really been a fan of his, because I thought he was kinda weird, but hey, for a 40-year-old, he looks pretty darn good in this movie! That's way too old for me, so I set my sights on Orli.. But anyways, his performance was amazing! I didn't even feel like I was looking at Johnny, I felt like i was really looking at Jack Sparrow! Sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow. His little drunken-walk was kind of weird, and I was torn between whether he was trying to look drunk or gay, but it did make me laugh! And all of his one-liners and things just made the movie hilarious. I thought it would be one of those action-packed-people-getting-blown up type of thing (you know, with all the cannons), but there wasn't too much of that! When he first meets up with Orli and they have their little swordfight in the blacksmith shop, I was just amazed at how they swung sharp blades at each other, and none of them got hurt! It inspired me to take up fencing! But all I have to say about him is he's hilarious, clever, cunning, and kinda sexy! Haha, but this movie wouldn't be the same without him!
Orlando Bloom - There's so many things to say about him! For one thing, he's unbelievably gorgeous, which is great because then if you get bored with the movie (which you wouldn't anyway..), you can just watch Orli! He fits the part of Will Turner so well! You can tell he's a good actor just by the way he takes the roles so seriously. I thought it was great the way that he got Jack in jail in the beginning of the movie, and then by the end was fighting side by side with him so that he wouldn't die. That was just plain awesome! His performance in this was definitely drool-worthy and since he's in it, everyone should go see it!
Keira Knightly - All I'm going to say is that I pulled off my flip flop and almost threw it at the screen at the end of the movie. I'm very jealous of her!! But she did do a good job as her role of Elizabeth Swan, or Elizabeth Turner. Yes, I wish it was me, but she did a great job anyway.
The costumes, scenery, and music added to the awesome-ness of the movie, and it was just the best! I'm definitely going to be the first in line to buy this when it's on DVD, and I'm definitely going to see it a few more times in the theater!
From Monique 07/21/03
I totally agree with everyone who has ever seen the movie. It was incredibly great!!! ^_^ I think that Orlando played his part well and was really charming but I'd have to say that Johnny Depp's performance as Captain Jack Sparrow was just BRILLIANT!!! I mean, he was just very very funny and charismatic! (not to mention that wierd half drunken walk was hysterical! ^_^) Elizabeth was pretty cool becuase she wasnt ENTIRELY a damsel in distress.
One of MY favorite scenes was Jack tried to hit on Elizabeth on the island when they got stuck together! and also the part where he complained about the rum! I wish that island scene was longer but other than that, the movie was absolutely fantastic! Its become one of my top 3 favorite movies! I strongly recommend for everyone to see this movie and im soooo jealous of the people who got to see Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in person!
From Anya 07/18/03
Let’s just say: hooked from the first second. When the
title appears and the ship drifts in from out of the
mist… I was NOT leaving the theatre.
I’ve seen the movie twice and I just loved it each
time; it was so much fun to watch and must have been
so much fun to make. Sword-fighting, swinging through
the air, humour, great acting… can we say “wonderful”?
Orlando is simply wonderful; so perfect. I truly feel
for Will. So different from Legolas, but no less
endearing. I was rooting for him all the way… and at
the end… well, how could I help but cheer for him?
Jack Sparrow. You’ve got to love this guy. CAPTAIN, if
you please. And when Geoffrey Rush growls “Arrrr”, you
know you’re in for a good time.
The music was brilliant; I was hard-pressed to stay
still whenever the main theme was played, and shivers
ran down my spine at the sound of the woodwinds. Why
oh why isn’t the soundtrack being released until the
22nd of July?!?
All in all, this movie rocks. I am SO getting the DVD.
From Michelle 07/18/03
Like everybody already said Oralndo was and is the hottest person in the
world.... i never knew about him until my mom surprised me with a trip to
Disneyland!! and it just so happens that she scheduled the trip the same weekend as
the premier. well i was just expecting to see Johnny Depp (he was cute too, but
to old for me). any way.... when my bff and I saw Orlando Bloom we fell in
love!!! i thought the movie didnt look so good (I don't like fighting movies) but
after seeing Orlando I had to see the movie!!
So about the movie... it was so awsome!! i saw it opening night and i
have seen it 5 times since... omg if you havent seen it yet you are totally
missing out. oh and dont forget to look for the sexiest man ever... Orlando of
corse!!!! Right when the movie comes out I'm definitely going to buy it! well have fun, I did, knowing I got to touch Orlando!!! *yeah*
From Jen 07/14/03
Hey, my name is Jen and I'm from California. I saw POTC at the Down Town Disney Theatre on opening night. It was fantastic!
There were quite a few people dressed up there, this one girl I saw who was like completely dressed up from head-to-toe, she looked very cool! I noticed everyone around this red carpet and before I had walked up to the Theatre I saw a large white Limo. My heart started pounding thinking there would be some Movie Stars there. So I asked this girl why there were all these people around just waiting? She said there was going to be this Special Merchandising Event where they had all the ACTUAL costumes that the REAL Orlando Bloom, and Johnny Depp wore in the film. There were many others of course but those were the two that caught my eye. I got pictures, so once I get them I'll send them in asap!
After she told me about the event she mentioned that Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp might be there...I gasped and started going crazy of course thinking I might miss them while watching the Film. But they didn't turn out to be there, a big major dissapointment, I thought finally one of my dreams might have just come true. But anyways, the girl told me she went to the Premiere at Disneyland and she was wearing a bag/purse of which Orlando Bloom had signed and showed it to me and said the Premiere was awesome!! I also think I heard her saying that she was waiting behind those small gates to see Orlando, Johnny and Keira for 12hrs or something! I don't blame her, I would've done the same just to see Orlando. Anyways on to the movie part.....
This is most definitely the Best movie of the year!! It is completely original and without a doubt something that I could watch over and over again. I couldn't believe how good it was, I mean I knew it would be, but this movie just blew me away! Everything was so exciting and adventerous. It all ran together so smoothly and the dialogue was magnificent - it couldn't have been better! Everything was mind-blowing, I mean it was so real, and it was professionaly done. I was just amazed and I literally jumped in my seat at least two times. It was such a fantastic movie!!
Orlando as Will Turner...*sigh*...what can I say? What a handsome, moral, caring man he was in this film! His character was so swoon-worthy, so complex, and completely out of this world! I felt so bad for him in some scenes, gosh he is just such a sweetheart. His fighting skills were wonderful, the scene where he and Jack first meet and fight is just awesome. He is such a skilled swordsman. Boy his being Legolas in LOTR really really showed in his fight scenes eh? I really loved the ending when he rescues Jack, and how they worked together to get away beating anyone who came in their way, it was so rocking. Man does he look good with that hair down and wet or what? I was like "OMG" ok..the girls will die.
Johnny's character, Captain Jack Sparrow..man oh man I had no idea that I would like his character as much as I did. He definitely without a doubt stole the show. He was so funny, I hadn't laughed in a movie as much as I did this one in such a long time and it was mostly because of him! The things he did, the things he said and just his actions...and wow that walk of his, it was great! Johnny Depp was a perfect Jack Sparrow, couldn't have pictured anyone else in his place. I love the part when Will acted out Jack's weirdness, that was hilarious. One of my favorite scenes was when Jack asked "But why the rum?" lol! He's the best Pirate I've ever seen!
Keira's Miss Turner, she did an excellent job. Elizabeth was so bright, so determined. She really was agressive I think, she would've done anything to rescue Will, I thought that was so sweet. Keira really portrayed her character very well, she is such an intelligent actress, and at such a young age too.
The Scenery, Music, and even the Costumes I just loved, everything was 100% Perfect! This movie is definitely in my Top5 List of Movies now! I think everyone should go see this movie....NOW!
From Marianne 07/14/03
I've seen PotC four times already! I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a movie! I usually go by myself, and I still laugh out loud.
All of the actors did a superb job. I've never been a Johnny Depp fan but he was fantastic in this, and I have a new respect for his abilities. He made a beautiful pirate. Keira and Geoffrey did stupendous jobs, also and were cast perfectly.
*Orlando* - what can I say? I'm speechless! Let me just say, that it certainly isn't just teens who are stuck on him - I'm 46!:) He is a great actor who is going places and has the face of an angel.
This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, and just leaves me feeling good. GO SEE IT!!
From Liz 07/14/03
I'm Liz, and I absolutely LOVED Pirates of the Caribbean. It was absolutely one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Johnny Depp was fantastic as Captain Jack Sparrow and I thought it was absolutely fabulous by the way he acted the character, the whole movie you couldn't tell whether he was drunk or sober or pretending to be drunk so everyone would think him an idiot. It was fantastic. Orlando was wonderful as Will Turner and I can't wait to see his job in Troy! I can't wait to see more of his acting skills, he played his character wonderfully and his skills with a sword blew me away. Although I hadn't ever heard or seen Keira Knightley before I thought she was fantastic also and I was so incredibly jealous when she got to kiss Orlando in the end, but then again, what girl who can't get enough of him wouldn't be? Geoffrey Rush was amazing as Barbosa and he was perfect for the part. I can't wait to see it for a third time some day soon, SAVVY!? lol! My favorite line in the movie was when Barbosa was inquiring as to how Jack got off the island the first and then Jack says, "...you forgot one thing, I'm Captain Jack Sparrow." Awesome!
From Maggi 07/13/03

deftinatly keeps ur attention the whole movie and never gets boring.. great
story line.. great actors/actresses. I love orlandos roll but i have toi admitt
johnny depp did an amazing job w/ his part and got lots of the best lines.. i
cant wait to see this movie again and it had become one of my fav movies of
all time!
From Annie 07/13/03
Firstly, Orlando Bloom has to be the best actor of all time! Not only is he good at acting, but he's sOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO hot and gorgeous that it's ridiculous! If you don't know if you wanna see Pirates of the Carribean, just the fact that Orlando is in it will make u love it! I did! It was sOoOoOo awesome! It's got a good plot line with romance (of course Orli makes that part the best), action, and it's funny! It's gotta be the best movie of the summer! Also, Jonny Depp is so cool in the movie. He looks amost (almost being the key word) as good as Orli. He's so funny too. Then there's Keira Knightly... OK I have to admit that she did a pretty good job and added to the movie even though Orlando's in love with her the whole movie. The only bad scene in the movie is the part when Orlando and Keira make out at the end...it's really depressing. I heard that she purposely messed up on that scene over and over again b/c she liked kissing him. But I mean, I guess you can't really blame her... we would all do the same thing if we were in her place. Anyway, if you haven't already, go see POTC! You'll lOoOoOoOve it!
From FunkyFe105 07/13/03
Ok first thing is first .. Orlando is sooo hott n gorgeous n sexy in this movie!!!!! that is only one reason y u should go and see POTC right now!! Johnny Depp is soo hott also and he is so funny!!! lol I loved him in this!!!! next u have to see this movie for the action!!! wow!!! the best part is the sword fight between "Captain" Jack Sparrow and "Rash" William Turner, it has really really good choreography!!! also this is a grea date movie!!! there are scary parts and action packed parts and love scenes!!!! (wit orlando (i know every single girl would have liked to play Miss Elizabeth Swann)) o man he is soooo hott!!!! I love him in that sexy costume in the end!!!! and one of my fave parts is the fight at the end when orlando and johnny fight the redcoats with the rope!!! its really awesome!!!! there is something in this movie for everyone.. today is the 13th and i have already seen it 3 times!!!!
From Queen557rogue 07/13/03
I love this movie. i saw it yesterday and johnny depp was excellent. Orlando was good but co-starring w/ Johnny kinda shadows him. the movie was great!
From Pippin 07/13/03
That was the funniest movie I have ever seen!!!!!! Johnny Depp was the most absolute perfect actor for that part! He brought so much life into the movie!!!!!!! And Orlando! Oh, my god! He was so sexy! A whole bunch of my friends and I went to see the movie the first showing on the first day! So. We had a blast! Can't wait to see it again! My favorite part, or at least one of them, was at the very beginning of the movie. Jack is up on the top of the mast, sailing into harbor, looking all sexy and everything, until the damn camera moves back!!!! Ok, I have to stop!! I'm dying of laughter over here!!!! He starts bailing out water of his flea sized ship and then it starts sinking!!!!!!!! He gets back up on top of the mast and the only thing left on top of the water is the sail! By the time he gets to the dock, he can step straight off of his perch and onto the dock!!!!! It's so hilarious!!!! Ok, enough of that! Go see it for yourself!!!
From Tanya 07/13/03
I loved POTC... so much that I've seen it twice already. Usually, for me, the first time is for figuring everything out and understanding the plot.
The second (or third, or twelveth) time is always better for me cuz then I can focus on things I may have missed the first time.
But anyway I, like everyone else, really enjoyed Johnny Depp's performance... he was just freakin GREAT! Orlando did a great job too; his character was just so darn lovable. The parts where he got angry and raised his voice were a little strange since I'd never heard him yell before ha.
It kinda scared me lol. And I was definately blushing during the part when he was wrapping Elizabeth's hand... "don't stop"... ummm YIKES 8/. The first time I saw the kissing scene, I almost covered my eyes. AHH, it was too weird. So much for being mature hehe.
My favorite parts were definately the sword fight between Jack and Will, and the end where Will saves Jack wearing the "pimp hat" as me and my friend call it (and I know I'm not the only one who thought he looked dead sexy in that hat). I also really enjoyed Jeff Rush's performance. I think he did a really fantastic job.
The only thing I did not like about the movie was the way Will and Elizabeth were always calling out each other's names. It's such a cliche' and I thought it made some of the parts kind of corny... but that's just what I think... blame it on Titanic. ;) Overall I think the movie is the best I've seen since Two Towers. I really, really enjoyed it and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.
From Kylie 07/12/03
Hello my name is Kylie i am a big fan of Orlando Bloom that movie is so fabulous, sorry i had to say that. anyways Orlando Bloom was so hot but my favorite character was Jack Sparrow. he was great. and i have to admit Johnny depp did looks cute in that movie also. i think Keira Knightley was perfect for the part. Johnny depp is hilarious keep it up. I've seen that movie twice and I'm going to see it again on Wednesday or Thursday. i love that movie. after that movie i had to look at pictures of Orlando Bloom he is really hot. i think hes the hottest actor ever. every movie i here Orlando's in i go see it although there's a few movies i haven't seen. oh yah and what that one girl said about your not legolas i thought you were great in the movie and it was cool to see you kiss Keira. i thought it was a good romantic seen. especially after Will raps Elizabeth's hand but they didn't kiss. but thats ok. i love the movie so much that i was searching for pictures of Orlando Bloom and all and found this so yah. I want to become an actress when i grow up. i love to watch movies. the sound affects were great and i love seeing Orlando Bloom sword fight it is awesome. keep it up guys. oh yah and I'll keep supporting you Orlando cause every movie i see you in it hasn't dissapointed me yet.
well i think ill look at pictures of Johnny Depp now gtg
From Alika 07/12/03
Ok, who was the one complaining that Will Turner is not Legolas? Both characters are completely (and you can SO not disagree with me here) sexy and if they are put into one character, BONUS! Lol. Anyway, I saw it the opening day, first show, and it was PACKED! My mom's boyfriend was the only one who wanted to see it with me and we had loads of trouble finding good seats. The only bad thing I can say about the movie? How can I? It was absolutely perfect. The best I have ever seen. And Keira, why did you have to do that?! Geez! If Orlando had ripped out my heart and flung it across the room, it still wouldnt have hurt as much as Keira kissing him. I was just all like "Nooo!" When she kissed him at the end. Well, not out loud, but in my heart I was practically screaming. Well, at least she apologized for kissing him. LOL! My friends think I need therapy because of this OBsession. But still, Johnny was a fantastic pirate and a damn funny one at that. I think my fave part was at the end, mostly because of the outift that Orlando had to wear. It was perfect! I practically swooned right into my popcorn! He looked... oh geez. I dont even know how to explain. The only word that I can think of to describe him in that outfit is "Manly". That is the only word I can think of.
From Kels 07/12/03
HI! i saw pirates of the caribbean on opneing day and OH MY GOD ITS AMAZING! it has something for everyone! for those of us who like romance theres some, also action, adventure, comedy, and also a bit of fantasy and mystery! so all in all I LOVED IT! if u havent seen it, GO! NOW! SHOO!
From Magdalen 07/12/03
Pirates was everything I expected and more. From the first scene with Orlando, my eyes were riveted to the screen. THERE HE WAS! That first scene with him and the whole "Miss Swann" thing was so cute. You could see how much he wanted to call her Elizabeth, but her blasted father . . . I thought the commadore was actually quite nice (Elizabeth Swann's fiancee) and Johnny was, of course, hilarious and sexy all at once. Geoffery Rush was creepy and his crew provided comic relief. His monkey was a little weird, though. The plot was well conceived and I think Verbinski is well on his way to having people think the ride was based on the movie and not the other way around. All my friends who thought Orlando was hot as Legolas came out of the theatre speechless after seeing him with his chocolatey hair and eyes . . . Go see it, it was fabbity fab fab fab.
From Amile 07/12/03
Hi, I'm Amile and I thought POTC was a brilliant movie. Third star goes to: ex aeqo(spelling, I know...), the fight scenes and special effects, which were incredibly great, entertaining, exciting and realistic enough to believe it. Second star to Johnny Depp, for what he did to his character. This man is daring and every single scene he was in was hilarous. You just can't deny his talent. And finally, the first star of the game goes to..... ORLANDO BLOOM (who would have thought...) Beside being extremely handsome and making you want to give your every breath to him, he was technically perfect in every way, even in imitating Johnny Depp's character... :)
Keira Knightley was also perfect for this role. Even if I am waaaaaaayyyyy jealous she got to kiss Orlando, I'm sure no one would have handled the damsel-in-distress-don't-leave-any-man-(especially mine)-behind thing. :D
The film is really worth seeing, you don't have to be a Orlando or Johnny or Keira fan, it's just a very good movie full of action, romance and humour.
From Siamesetwin0507 07/12/03
This movie is one of the best this summer. It's stunning visual efffects and romantic plot and action sequences make it a wonderful movie for everyone to see. The major characters have a sense of humor that allows for the movie to be both breathtaking and have a comic relief. I thought this movie had a great plot and the actors convinced me they were vagabonds. I know I will go see this movie at least one more before it goes out of theaters and most people who see it will agree that it's "A pirates life for me." Both Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom provided a reason for all people to go see it especially me so I give them as many stars and thumbs up as you can. It was a wonderful movie and Orlando Bloom, I must say, looks as good as a pirate as he does as an elf.
From Anna 07/12/03
Ahh.. first off, let me just say, that its just what i expected and more. Orlando is great, hilarious [ the Jack Sparrow impersonation was priceless.. ], hot, talented... and all togeather wow
Johnny was great.. i give him shots for being drunk and worrying about rum.. awesome. His sneaky and craftyness made up for being the "worst pirate i have ever seen".I was completly freaked out when he was stabbed, but SO SO SO glad to see that it didnt hurt him... power to the skeletons!
Now, on to Elizabeth. Her acting was.. decent. If she wasnt so clingie on William, i'd say she was smashing. but she was clingie. and smoochie.. and i wish she would have drowned when she wore the corset.. we cant have everything.... oh well!
Orlando.. now i have many things to say. WOW! he was amazing.. his stunts, his fighting, his acting... it was more than ever imagined. and i'm on my back in awe!! He looked positivly smashing in his getup, that greasy hair.. and i never thought of him as the tight wearing guy, but now i do! and his hat at the end is one that i extreamly loathe to wear... I WANT IT! And the feather is fun. heheheheh.. But the person they chose to use as him as a child was.. dissapointing.. didnt look like him at all... not fun!
Well, thats my review.. i would put more effort if i wasnt.. dead?
From Macor95123 07/12/03
It came out July 9th and I saw it first thing! Let me tell you, he was AMAZING! He was beautiful, but, I didn't really like the ending. Even though he ends up with the woman he loves, does he have to kiss her in slow motion? EEERRRRR! He does amazing sword fights and he's sexier then ever. I already saw it three times!
From Stephanie 07/12/03
I just came back from seeing POTC at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood! Oh my goodness,
it was SOO freakin' cool!:)) If anyone lives in southern california, you MUST see POTC at
the El Capitan!! they have the stage and entrance all decorated with the props and
banners and a huge skull on top of the stage, and downstairs there is a little room where
they have set up some of the movie props and costumes worn by the actors. its was really
neat!:)) man, orlando is so tall! and keira looks like she really skinny and tall from
the looks of her dress. johnny looks pretty short.
I was blown away by this movie. it was THAT good!:) when the movie started, everyone in
the theatre was cheering and all the girls screemed when will turner first came on the
screen:) before the movie started, some guy did a little introductory thing for it and
they had a guy up front there playing the worlitzer, and when the lights when down, the
little cannons they had on either side of the balcony's shot off and they had this little
effects stuff going on on the stage and the huge skull that was over the screen was
glowing. it was GREAT!:) and i stayed at the end of the credits to see the little set up
scene they have for the sequal. cant wait for that!:))) johnny depp was HILARIOUS in this
movie. he did a great job as capt. jack sparrow:)) orlando, keira and geoffery were great
too. i'm going again next week to see it in pasadena where they have a 60ft. screen!:))
The el capitan was a little too small. but it was nice with all the decorations and
stuff:)) GREAT MOVIE!!
From Jennifer 07/12/03
Hi my name is Jennifer and I just wanted to say that I thought that the movie was awesome! It had action, adventure, comedy, and of romance. Not alot but it was okay! Anyways, Orlando played a great part in the movie, as always he's a great actor! Also Johnny Depp was hilarious! He did he's part so well too! I thought that the things he said were so funny! I couldn't't stop laughing! And you never know there could be a sequel, but what would it be about?
From Jackie 07/12/03
Sorry I couldn't write to you earlier because I have been so busy but the movie was so great and hilarious both Johnny & Orlando played great roles and performed so well I saw it on Wednesday night and we all started clapping at the beginning of the movie and there were two people that I saw 1 girl and 1 guy dressed as pirates we also clapped at the end of it too it was so great everyone should go see it ! I'm going to see it again tommorrow! I'll do anything to support them. By the way its one of those movies that you can never get tired of even my sisters boyfriend wanted to go see it again he said it was funny and such a good movie. I hope a lot of other people like it as well
From Melissa 07/12/03
Hi my name is Melissa im 12 years old . I thought the movie was awesome!
Orlando was soo HOT ! in the movie and all his facial expressons were great they
really made you pay attention instead of looking around as if they were
watching no movie. Keira you were awesome as well you really brought out your
character . Johnny Depp was great you were so funny and you as well brought out your
pirate character. In this movie i can see that everyone worked hard and got
along with each other well enough to make this movie awesome!. I would give this
movie an A plus not a C . I would have to say that the best acter in the
movie was Orlando Bloom because you made this movie happen ! if they had picked
anyone else it wouldnt be as good as you made it with your grasp of the
character. I hope that i can become a great actor like you Orlando Bloom and be in
a movie with you! But i dont know where to start ! any suggestons Orly ? The
movie was awesome doesnt everyone agree?
From Krissi 07/12/03
This movie was awesome!!! I seriously almost fainted when Orli came on the screen. He is so HOT!
Anyway, I thought this movie had a bunch of great one-liners(most from Johnny Depp). It was a very funny movie.
Johnny Depp.....is well hot. No offense to Orli of course. I think he deserves an Oscar for his preformance.
I've decided I hate Keira Knightly. C'mon when she kisses Orli, she's holding his hat. That was so dumb!! She could've done something else with her hands!!
This movie is totally wonderful. The only movie I liked better were the LOTR movies.
From Ali 07/12/03
I just got back from seeing POTC for the 2nd time! I love this movie and i made my friend a fan of it as well! I think that the cast did a fabulous job in this swash-buckling tale, especially Johnny Depp. He did a great job as Jack Sparrow...Captain Jack Sparrow..sorry, hehe. Also, Orlando Bloom was great because even in times of infinite danger, he manages to look incredibly sexy!
GO SEE IT!!
From Cara 07/11/03
Hello I'm Cara and OMG I LOVED IT
First off with the slightly bad, since it was rated PG13 at like the last second the acting is still played down to a younger level and would've been more appriciated if it was more... written (like with the lines and the words) as a PG13 but it being Disney I guess that's a given.
But it was great. The Coda at the end of the credits is there! Give it time and watch it!! That littel clip might prove the Sequel Rumors are true afterall.
BUt Orlando is great, some times he's so funny your laughing so hard that your crying. There;s one seen where he does this pirates Arg really loud and I just like blushed and laughed and it was so funny there were tears in my eyes.
He's also a bit..... grabby..... but didn't we all wish we were Elizabeth??? Keira said during the Kissing Scene the teenaged daughters of the crew were glaring at her and all I can say is....I glared at that screen every time her name came up in the credits she's so lucky!
If you weren't going to see it, your insane, you absolutely must! JOhnny is hilarious, the Monkey is Priceless and Orlando is....well he's God but on top of that he's sexy and funny and very talented.
on a scale of 1 to 10 its lurkin around 50
From Beau 07/11/03
Hello there, I am a fan of Orlando Bloom (but not a bigger one than my older sister) and I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and I thought it was hilarious, exciting, and the special effects were awesome. Orlando is very hot in that movie, Johnny is very funny, but I don't like the looks of the Kiera Knightly kissing Orlando Bloom...... :) But all in all, I thought it was a terrific movie and I can't wait to see it again.
From Shellygrl139 07/11/03
The movie had amazing acting! Orli and Depp were amazing! Orli was soo hott
in this movie! The plot was pretty good, basic though. Special Effects were great! Soo spooky! Id give it an A- ! Great work, Orlando!
From Michelle 07/11/03
I saw the movie on opening day with my best friend (another Orli psyco), my 2
sisters and my mom. I am 13, and when Orlando came on, this 18 year old girl
started squealing, although her boyfriend was right there. I cracked up when
Depp made all those funnny comments, and I shed a tear when Orli was being told
about his dead father (Im only human, ok!), and I was pissed when Kiera got
to smooch Orli! UGH! Whats 13 years difference, anyway? The movie was soo
wonderful, that me and my same friend saw it again on Thursday, and pointed out all
the little details. The only reason we didn't go again today, was because we
had no rides and no money. This movie was absolutely amazing, and Orlando
rocked, although he needs to work a bit on his ability to do separate characters,
for I half expected him to pull out a blonde wig and a bow, with the way his
voice and facial expressions were. Will Turner is not Legolas, ok Orlando?
Jonny made the movie what is is, which is great! I want to be an actress when I
get older, and these three actors are a great influnce on me! GREAT JOB ORLI
JOHNNY AND KIERA!!!! You gotta see this movie!
From Deb 07/10/03
You know, being an Orlando Bloom fan is fun. My family, boss and coworkers have been picking on me for weeks--teasing me about pirates and Orlando. They say I'm too old at 21 to have a crush on an actor. I just told them to lighten up and have fun once in awhile.
I was so excited about Pirates, I bought my ticket in advance for opening night.
Well, yesterday and last night was a really bad weather day here in Indiana. Severe storms rocked the state for most of the day and night. I braved the storm to see it. I'm glad I did. Orlando did an amazing job. Johnny was fantastic. Even on a crazy rainy nasty day the theatre was packed for every show all afternoon. I saw the 6:50 and then went back for the 10:00. Completely packed. It was hte most beautiful thing I've seen. I was so happy because everyone was clapping and cheering and laughing and saying how good the film was. It was still rainy when I left.
As it turns out, there was a tornado and funnel clouds just north of my house, and very strong winds had gone through my neighborhood. The tops of three trees had been broken off in my yard. On the garage and two fell right across the driveway where I park and through the roof in my room! So, if I hadn't gone to see Pirates, my car would have been totaled and I could have been injured--or worse. Everyone is ok. No one was home and the family pets were not injured. I do have a nasty mess to clean up, but everything material can be replaced.
They say everything happens for a reason. I have decided to be an Orlando fan for the rest of my life, and never skip an opening-come hell or high water. My family and co-workers suddenly seem to be ok with that. *wink
ps...The tree completely missed my Legolas posters! Whew, that was a close one!
From Candylink4 07/10/03
The movie was great. Orlando Bloom was excellent and I think was perfect for the part. From a scale of 1-10 I rate it a 10.
From Stef 07/10/03
What a great movie for the whole audience. it was funny, adventurous, and
romantic. orlando bloom, of course, was incredible: always the romantic
hero, he is. he looked splendid in every scene, and every time i saw him, i
would scream inside. it's the kind of movie one wouldn't tire of watching
over...and over...and over again, just to orlando bloom's deep, passionate
brown eyes. a brilliant adventure movie!
From Kristen 07/10/03
I went to the POTC premiere last night and I LOVED every minute of it. Not many people attend the movies in my town during the week, but last night...the place was packed. Myself, I just went to see Orli; because I love him so much! He is the greatest actor and I very much enjoy watching him. The movie, like I said, was great. It was serious, but yet funny. Orli adapted very well to it. I literally held my breath for the entire movie. My sister took me as a birthday present, and I have to say that it was the best that I could've asked for. Every time that Orlando came onto the screen, I grabbed my sister's hand and held it very tightly. I would have given anything to be Keira Knightly. That kiss tore my heart out. I wished that it was me. She's a very lucky girl. All in all, it was the best movie of the year and I will probably see it numerous times.
From Meghan P 07/10/03
My name is Meghan and I thought I'd send in my review of PotC. =) I just saw it tonight (July 10) with my two best friends who are just as obsessed with LotR/PotC/Orlando as I am lol. For weeks we had been counting down the days until PotC would finally hit theaters and we always got excited when we saw trailers on tv for PotC. =) So finally, when PotC came out, you can tell we were pretty happy lol. Anyway, we couldn't see it opening day (which was a shame lol) so we saw it tonight and I just have to say that it was AWESOME. =D Even though a film critic in the Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times (where I'm from ^_^) bashed the whole movie, I still knew it would be great. =D
So anyway, onwards with my review. =P The acting was incredible, each actor played their parts extremely well. =) To begin, I have to say that I really enjoyed Johnny Depp's character, Jack Sparrow. He was hilarious throughout the entire movie even when he was in the worst of situations. =P His character was definitely very comical and Johnny Depp's acting was amazing. I really got a good laugh when the three different ladies slapped him and he would say,"I might have deserved that one" and when he chased after the monkey which my friends and I have nicknamed "Rabid Monkey" lol.
Ahh and now for Orlando Bloom's character, Will Turner. ;) What's there to say really? Orlando is an awesome actor and he really played his part well. =) My friends and I continually cheered for Orlando throughout the movie despite the weird looks we got from people lol (we also wore our matching Legolas shirts which caused quite a few people to point and whisper to their friends lol). Anyways. This is going to sound really "teenybopperish" of me, but Orlando was pretty darn hot in the movie. ;) Anyway, like I said before, Orlando's acting was amazing as always and I loved his character. Also, I got a kick out of the part where he imitates Jack Sparrow. =P
Kiera Knightley's acting was really good as well, she's definitely going to go places with her acting. =) Although, she is pretty lucky to have kissed Orlando at the end lol. =P The rest of the cast was great too...so basically it's an overall good movie. =) Oh and definitely wait until the credits are over to see the little extra clip with the "evil monkey" lol. The really last part of it will catch you off guard, but it's worth waiting around to see it. ;)
So that's my review. Definitely go see PotC if you haven't already. =) The acting is great, the storyline is both funny and somewhat serious at the same time and the sound effects/graphics are awesome. =) Oh and this is really random (sorry..), but in the lobby of the movie theater I went to, they had a VERY nice advertisement poster for RotK...wOoT!! =D It just has a big picture of Aragorn with his sword and looking noble and beneath his picture it says "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of King. December 17." Very cool. =)
From Courtney 07/10/03
Hey the movie was great I mean at first you need to pay attention to understand the rest of the movie. The romance in the movie is just so moving I mean even though you wish you were his love in the movie. The romance was wonderful, Johnny Depp was great he was extremely funny. Acting drunk but slick, Still Orlando was a great actor and was great with Johnny. Lots of shocking and interesting secrets in the movie. Geoffrey Rush was a good correcting smart cursed head pirate and was good at keeping his pirates in line. The rest of the cast helped in different ways. Orlando can kiss!! He was great you have to see for yourself. It made me weak in the knees. I didn’t see the surprise at the end because my sis and bro in-law made me leave but Im going back soon. This weekend or next week. Go and see it again and again Im going for over 10 maybe.
From Lossefalme 07/10/03
I must saw that many unexpected things turned up but it was indeed a very well thought out movie. though they made some things in the movie a little too obvious. I was quite surprised about how well the movie was. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom made quite a pair in this movie, I believe it would be necessary to make a sequel. Also for those who did or will take the time and patience to stay in the theatre till the end of all the credits you will find a little surprise.
From Liza 07/10/03
I saw the movie, last night, at 'The Crest' in Westwood (by the way, fabulous theatre if you get a chance to visit it) and loved it!!!! It was alot of fun. Johnny Depp plays this sort of fun-loving 'captain w/o a ship' character very well and made me laugh. People laughed, too, because the movie re-enacted scenes from the ride and we all could relate to those (ex. the dog with the keys). Lots of action and 'falls'...I think I saw my cousin (who's a pirate extra).
I stayed for the entire credits (to see if my cousin's name came up) and there is one more scene after the credits---so stay for the whole thing!!! Lots of people left and missed it.
It was funny because as I was waiting in line for popcorn some guy behind me said 'I didn't know this film had such a cult following'---as I looked around, there were some young ladies dressed like pirates...I wasn't about to bother the one with the hook in her left hand!!!
From Rochwyn 07/10/03
I went to the 6:30 showing of POTC on the opening night and was pleasantly surprised to find that by the time the show started, the theater (holding at least 200 people) was nearly full, considering that it was in the middle of the week and the day.
And not only that, but the movie -- which I thought would be more appealing to teenagers -- brought in a crowd ranging from a family with a child no more than three, to two elderly women no younger than 70, to a group of men that were either 40 or 50.
The movie itself was excellent. And I never call movies excellent. It was similar to reading a well written novel; there were complex story-lines that entertwined themselves in a way both exhilarating and horrifying to the viewer.
Johnny Depp played his part spectacularly. His performance was, I believe, his most memorable yet. His character was what lightened that which could have been a very solemn and somber movie.
Orlando Bloom played the straight man as good or better than many a more experienced actor could have done. Though because he was the straight man, he did not receive the best lines in the movie. However, his swordplay was far better than even I had expected (and I have very high expectations of Mr. Bloom). It will be very interesting to see how he will play Paris. There he will adulterate with another man's wife (the king's, for that matter), and will start a huge war. This role is impossibly different from any other he has played.
Keira Knightley also acted admirably. Though I don't think that her performance was quite as convincing as anyone else's. Together, I must say, they are remarkably similar to Errol Flinn and Olivia De Havolin. However acting styles have become less high and mighty and more similar to true life since then, and so I'm not sure I can properly compare the two.
Altogether, this is one of the best films I have seen since The Two Towers, and I dearly hope that it shall profit in box-offices.
From Cindy E 07/10/03
I just got to watch Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time today. I don't know about you guys, but I was ecstatic about watching Orlando on the big screen again, minus the blonde wig and contacts. And boy, did I enjoy POTC! Even if it did have Orlando Bloom in it, I'm still surprised at how great of a movie it is being that it's a Disney movie!
Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow ;-) was a funny character, and I loved the way he portrayed him. I never really liked Johnny Depp's characters, but this one is definitely one that anyone would enjoy watching! He cracks a lot of jokes in the movie, and his facial expressions - especially one that I saw in his early swordfight scene with Orlando - were hilarious!
Playing a character quite different from Legolas, Orlando Bloom's Will was, naturally, incredibly handsome (Seriously, there wasn't a single time he looked bad. Not even when his was covered with dirt. Or when he's soaked to the bone in sea water - ha, he looks even better that way! And Orlando always seems to manage to look especially nice when fighting with those swords!)...He was also a very nice gentleman towards his Elizabeth. As critics have said, there's not much that Orlando can do with that kind of a role, but he manages well, anyway. Also, Will gets his share of funny scenes, too. I loved it when we first see him (the older Will) before he presents his newly made sword to Governor Swann. What a laugh! The few scenes where Will isn't fighting or pining for Elizabeth show a brief glimpse into Orlando's great talent for acting. I can't wait to see his future roles!
I also loved Elizabeth Swann, played by Kiera Knightley. Far different from other damsels in distress, really! Her character actually has a personality of her own (where, in some movies, the only thing those types of roles do is scream and call for help), and she's quite clever - she knows how to get out of sticky situations! i.e., getting off the island that she and Jack were stranded on, saving herself from being killed right on the spot when the pirates found her in the closet...etc.
The other characters in the movie were also very enjoyable to watch. Captain Barbossa (aww, I actually felt kind of sorry for him at times! He never got to eat his apple!), his pirates, the British soldiers who kept arguing about the Black Pearl...very funny!
The movie overall was very fun to watch. I loved all of it! The action scenes had some wonderful choreographed swordfights, the comedic parts were laughable, the storyline worked...POTC is definitely up there on my list of favorite movies, which include the two Lord of the Rings movies. I'm more than willing to watch the movie again!
From Jen 07/10/03
I have been so totally thrilled about "The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" ever since January. I was watching the SuperBowl (I'm a big fan of the Tamp Bay Buccaneers) when the trailer came on for the movie with Orlando Bloom. I was soooo thrilled because I'm a big fan of everything Pirates and also a huge Orlando Bloom fan - so ever since I've been completely obsessed with this movie. I kept calling into all the different radio stations, trying to get tickets for the Orlando premiere (I think it's really cool that I live in a city that shares the name of my favorite actor), but every time, it was always some other lucky girl that won them (sniff, sniff). So I had to wait until today (7-10-03) to see it. I would have went yesterday, but my little sister had a dentist appointment, so my mum couldn't take me.
Well, anyway, I thought it was a brilliant movie. Johnny Depp made a wonderful pirate, and I loved his costume soooo much. He had a lot of awesome one-liners. Keira Knightly (I hope I spelled that right) was wonderful in her part, It was so cool how she went in to save Will Turner without any help - she made the perfect heroine. Geoffry Rush was awesome in his part, he made a great evil, cursed pirate. I loved the effects, the way the pirates turned to skeletons in the moonlight, and how the Black Pearl was all tattered and beat up... And of course - Orlando Bloom... (sigh) he is a brilliant actor and not to mention soooo hot! He was great in the role of Will Turner; he made it so believable that he wanted to rescue "Elizabeth", although I completely envy Keira Knightly just for the fact that she got to kiss Orlando... I think that they definitely left room for a sequel, although I hope they do just as good of a job on it as they did on this one. You know sometimes the first movie is good, but then they make a sequel and it just isn't as good... Well I don't to spoil it too much; I'll just say that this movie is one u can see over and over again. All in all - I loved it!!!!!
From Denniel 07/10/03
Wow...i went and saw that movie yesterday...it was AWESOME!!! Definately the BEST movie of the summer!! Me and several of my friends went to see it together and we were all dressed as pirates!! It was a lot of fun. We all decided that we have to go see it AT LEAST 4 more times! lol. Well, i hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
From Chenoa 07/10/03
I saw POTC yesterday, and I was blown away. It was an all around awesome movie (not just because Orlando, which was the only reason I had planned on going! haha). I enjoyed every second of the movie, and have found an even GREATER love for Orlando! I can't wait to see him on the big screen again!
From Tricia 07/10/03
I saw the last showing of POTC last night. I was pretty much only going to see it for Orlando - I've been a fan since day one of Lord of the Rings! The movie itself could have been better I think, but it was still entertaining. Orlando was unbelievably beautiful - caught my breath every time he walked on screen. As hot as he was, Johnny Depp made the movie. Every line that came out of his mouth was clever and hilarious. He didn't even have to speak to make me start laughing - all he had to do was walk and I was laughing. Orlando looks even hotter when he's mad - there's a scene where he slams a hatchet down on a table and screams at the Norrington guy. That was a good show.
The special effects weren't bad - I've seen better. The script could have used some help, but I wouldn't have changed a thing about Johnny Depp. Keira Knightley was impressive, but then again I've always liked her. Geoffrey Rush is the perfect villain. He is a number one actor in my book. The sword fight between Johnny and Orlando was a little drawn out, but nevertheless entertaining. I would recommend it and I would see it again for the sole purpose of watching Johnny Depp in action. He made the movie worth it! I'm still an Orlando fan, but Johnny Depp has one up on him in this movie.
From Ashley 07/10/03
Only two words can what I thought of PotC as I sat in the theatre earlier... awe and amazement! I was completely blown away! When you see the preview for a movie and it looks awesome, you usually set your expectations too high up, and are disappointed afterwards while saying to anyone who will listen how it could have been better. Well, with PotC, this was NOT the case! My expectations were high as I walked into the theatre, and I was shocked at how the movie was actually BETTER than I thought it would be. There was nothing that could have been better in this movie. The acting was great, the special effects were superb, and Orlando too my breathe away! He is such a good kisser!!! The movie fits in all genres including romance, humor, action, adventure, and scare! Wow!!! I am so happy with how this movie turned out, and I would recommend it to anyone! ***** Go see it today!
From Meghan Q 07/10/03
I saw the movie yesterday and i was smiling the WHOLE way through!!! i loveed this movie! it had everything..good laughs, action/adventure, suspense, romance, a good plot, and ofcourse a HOTTIE named orlando bloom!!!
Orlando was AWESOMEE!! he looked soo gorgeous and super fiine. i loved the way he can look totally grungy and dirty and still be the hottest man alive!! his acting really stood out in this too..he can be very funny and serious at the same time! his action sequences were super also. i think this movie really helped him stand out as a GREAT leading man!!
Johnny Depp was great..very funny and he played Jack Sparrow very well! loved the dirty look also...that scene where Elizabeth and him are stranded on the island *drunk* was too cute!!
Kiera Knightly was great also and i loved how she wasnt really a damsel in distress she got herself outta trouble a couple of times!!
All in all this movie had everything i was looking for and i think it should win MANY awards for it and i think this movie will prove that not ALL pirate movies suck!! I will see it everyday if i can..its the type of movie that u can see over and over again and still love it!!
and i am COMPLETELY pumped for a sequal!!!

The speceal effects were completing mind blowing. The ships wore hugh and out of this world! To say how big this movie really is . The movie theater had 4 of the biggest screens to play POTC!! I loved to costumes that the actors wore. The were beuatiful. I can't stop thinking about Orlando. He looked so good in those clothes! Johhny Depp did a wonderful job as Jack Sparrow. I laughed, I almost cried, I knew this movie would be a HUGH success. It total was. Orlando is doing a movie called Troy with Brad Pitt and it comes out May 21st. I can't wait to see it. Orlando was sooo HOT!!!!!!!!!! Everyone is in for a treat with this wonderful, mind blowing, breath taking movie!!!!! So if you haven't seen it go right now! Get off your computer and GO!!!!! Orlando was so HOT. This movie is a MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!

WOW! I went to the movie expecting a cliché pirate movie with rope swinging and treasure stealing. It had all the typical pirate movie qualities expect that it was ten billion times better! I only went to see orli but he actually wasn't the only amazing part of the movie! Johnny Depp was fantastic, Keira Knightely was fantastic! Everything was amazing: special effects, acting, storyline, characters, sets! EVERYTHING! The score was even great. I'm half tempted to buy it! I wasn't bored for one moment. I loved every bit of it! In all I'd have to say POTC is NOT your average pirate movie!
From Fiona 07/10/03
Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl was the best movie ever!!! Orlando was so awesome in it also!!! I'll be seeing it for awhile!!!
From Sierra 07/10/03
There is only one word to describe the movie: "excellent". The Pirates of the Caribbean is above all, the best movie of the summer. The movie is so wonderful, you can't even decide where to place it. There is action, adventure, horror, drama, romance, and definitely comedy. The most funniest being Mr. Johnny Depp. If you don't smile about Jack Sparrow's humor, you will for Orlando Bloom. By the end of the movie, you'll end up trying to decide who's the best character Orlando's played - Legolas Greenleaf, our dear elf from LOTR, or Will Turner, our new love from POTC. :) Throughout the movie, there's twists and amazing special effects. Also, if you've been of the ride before, you may even see parts from it. ^_^ POTC is a must see movie. If you're like me, you may even end up seeing it once a week until they stop showing it. :)
From Holly 07/10/03
You wanted a review of PoTC? I'll give it to you in 2 words: it ROCKED!
From Max 07/10/03
I saw it yesterday, and I'm still smiling! Even without the beautiful eye candy, it really was a great movie. Johnny was never one on my favorite actors, other than being gorgeous. But in this movie, the beauty is hidden behind some sweet hair and gold teeth, so his talent shins through. I truly believe I was watching Cap'n Jack Sparrow, not Johnny Depp playing Cap'n Jack Sparrow
Orlando was beautiful, and did very well in the role given him, but I agree with the critic who said he'd like to see Orlando take on more challenging, outgoing roles. His best scenes were when he was riled up and angry. Or wet. Those were good too.
Keira, besides being a lucky little wench for that kiss, was surprisingly good. Not Oscar quality yet, but she's young, and working on it. I could see her winning and Oscar before Orlando, really.
The special effects weren't fakey, the comedy was cheesy (most of the time), the film was well shot, well acted, and the whole thing was worth the 8 bucks a dozen times over.
And a plus, the monkey scene after the credits has it completely set up for a sequal...YAY!!
From Chrhildebra 07/10/03
i saw the movie and i would like 2 say omfg Orlando Bloom is sooooo HOT!!! but besides that makin it a great movie there were quite a few parts that could go right over kids heads but im 14 so i caught those parts n laughed with all the other adults n teens there. i think its a movie for the whole family.... if the squeamish close their eyes during the skeletons, but i didnt hear any screams or cryin from the litlle kids so i guess they liked it 2. i saw it on opening day wit my parents n id like 2 say congrats 2 Orlando Bloom n Disney 4 havin another GREAT success! Disney movies r gettin more mature and realistic yet still bein fantasy. yippee! for teenage disney fans like me! o ya n a bonus was i got 2 hear Orlando say Elizabeth, my name, practically all the time! im definatly reccomending it 2 every1 it also puts u in the mood 4 the ride cuz its alot like it. GOOD JOB!!!!
From Maribeth 07/10/03
First things first...when Orlando first appeared, all the ladies in our row
audibly gasped...cracked up the whole theater. And Johnny Depp, well, oh
my... That out of the way, it was an EXCELLENT movie! Funny, lots of action,
and a great story. Although my first motivation was eye-candy, I have to say
it was very well done. It is one of those movies where you never look at
your watch - which for me is a big indicator that I was completely sucked
in. I have to see it again just to watch what Johnny is doing in the
background...hilarious. I can't wait to take my husband and kids. Everyone
will love this movie! When does it come out on DVD???
From Elizabeth 07/10/03
Great movie! I bought three of the top national newspapers (Washington Post, NY Times and USA Today) this morning to see what they had to say about it...plus I wanted some more pictures of Orlando and Johnny, but that's beside the point...anyway, I was almost surpirsed to see they got great reviews from ALL THREE! I mean one or two maybe, but all three! So I was even more excited...ok so I have been counting down the days since it was in the hundreds!
Johnny Depp just made the movie! It wouldn't have been the same without him. He was absolutely hilarious!
And of course Orlando was wonderful! He was the brave, heroic, smooth/sweet/soft talking pirate that any girl would want to be a damsel in distress for! (he can save me any day!)
I have to say POTC is my favorite movie he has been in thus far...can't wait till ROTK, Troy and Ned Kelly come out!
Overall, great picture. Loads of action, humor, some romance...well it covers all the fields! Worth seeing...I am deffinately going to see it again! (If anything go see it for Orlando and Johnny!)
From Dee Dee 07/10/03
hi my name is dee dee, its 2 in the morning and i just came back from watching POTC. i tried to see an earlier showing but the first two shows were sold out and i see why. this movie was EXCELLENT!!!. johnny deep was SO FUNNY!!!. he played his part so well that i do not even imagine anyone else playing jack sparrow. and i though my hormones were calming down in relating to Orli but after this movie they shot right back up. his acting was VERY GOOD!! and i didn't even think about Legolas. he was charming and charismatic and i can not wait to see more of his films. THIS MOVIE IS A MUST SEE!!!!
From Kat 07/10/03
My review of POTC was awesome! It had a great cast. Both Orlando and Johny were great comedians! There is a last segment of the movie after all the credits. I stayed and watched this segment and it was pretty good. I heard there is a sequel coming up and I cant wait to see it!
From Adrienne 07/10/03
I Saw "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black" last night, WOW! it was so totally cool. It has these funny parts and than these more serious parts, that you really had to get into. I saw the first Pirates teaser on "The Two Towers" and I thought right than, Oh my God Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, I decided right than I was going.
If anyone out there doesn't like Pirates they should defiantly come and see the Sweetest Pirates in the Caribbean, Will and Jack!
my favorite part is when Will gets traps down in side the ship and water starts coming in, because the Black Pearl is firing on them! It is Awesome COME IN AND SEE IT! I am probably going in again tonight, Sunday, Tuesday and maybe next Sunday, Wow wow, Orland and Johnny so, so, so, so, ROCKED!
From Lei-Anne 07/10/03
Okay, here in Texas I saw the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl at 7:20 PM. People probably thought I was crazy, but, after the movie I asked other people about Will Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow, and they all thought that for Orlando's first big role in a movie, he did quite well. But all of the complements went to Johnny Depp. He is an incredibly brilliant actor, and made his character even more so. Orlando looked pretty good, but along with everyone else, I too agree, Johnny Depp was the screen stealer in this movie. **But that doesn't mean you shouldn't see it, there is more Orlando in this than in Lord of the Rings, plus he gets wet and his shirt sticks to him!**
SEE THE MOVIE, MATEY!

To make a long story shorter I just wanted to say PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN KICKED ASS.
It was awesome and Orlando and Johnny were so amazing, I thought it was either going to be a Bloomin good time, a Rush of excitement or a Depp adventure and all of us at the theater got all of that in POTC.
And Orlando was Adorable Hot, Sexy sweet, and a Pirate to boot, he was really amazing he was sooo cute, he kept making these adorable little eye movements and when he got trapped inside the ship it was really sweet.
And everyone who hasn't seen it should get their skinny or fat asses in there and watch it.
P.S. Jack Sparrow was really funny and serious at the same time.
P.P.S. Orlando is on fire in this movie!!
From Jessica 07/10/03
I walked into the theatre and i was all hyped up and i was getting too excited that i couldn't breathe. Finally it started they showed some previews for movies and they showed the Haunted Mansion preview and Hedalgo. The movie started it was great and it was so funny. Capt. Jack Sparrow was the best. Orlando was great except Sparrow was hilarious. There was a part in the movie where Will Turner was fixing Elizabeth hand and she said something like no don't stop and three girls that were a couple rows in front of us ran out of the theatre crying when will touched elizabeth. They came back in and then he kissed her and they ran out again. Heh. The movie was so cool and so funny and everyone in the theatre all gasped you could hear everyone when Sparrow got stabbed with the sword. They had the song and the town and the dog from the ride which was awesome. Orlando Johnny Keira and the rest of the cast was great in the movie. You have to see it.
From BreBaby06 07/10/03
Last night I was in pure heaven after watching POTC, absolutely amazing!! the effects, the scenery, the cast, the script was just perfect. Johnny was hysterical as his character, and Orlando had such an amazing gentleman charm that had every girl sighing in the audience, ad Keria looked beautiful and really held her own as the female lead ,towards the end she really starts kicking ass for all us girls out there to be proud ;) all i can say, is this is defiantly a movie you will want to see twice, the ingredients in this movie are magic and by the end you will be skipping out of the theatre singing "yo ho a pirate's life for me!"
****!!!
From Beth 07/10/03
I have been waiting to see Pirates of the Carribean since I first found out about the movie not knowing who was in it. When I found out who was in the cast that added to the movie. The ride at Disney World is one of my very favorites since I was a little girl and to make a movie of it was awesome!! The special effects of this movie were tremendous. Orlando looked wonderful and so did Johnny.
My father passed away May 28th and Pirates of the Caribbean was his favorite ride at Disney World and seeing it last night with my two daughters and my mom was great. I would love to thank Orland and Johnny for making my night (and the rest of the cast and crew of the movie). For those that don't know much about pirates in general it was always said that they were AC/DC (for those who don't know bisexual) and I think Johnny pulled it off. Orlando did a great job of playing a commoner that had pirate blood, gives a great bad boy image. I recommend that everyone see this not just for the cast but the effects and to honor my dads memory. My only question is " Is Jack, Will's brother, uncle or what?????" Can't wait for the next one ( there has been a lot of talk of at least two more) !!

There *ARE* spoilers in my review. Warning!
Anyway, I saw the Pirates of the Caribbean, and the best part is that there weren't many people there because it was an earlier show, so we (me, my Mom, and my grandma) had great seats and it was on the big screen. It was great. Good casting, great special effects, and a good plot to follow. It can be a little confusing at points, but by the end of the movie the whole thing plot should be pretty clear.
It finally started and i must say, the boy who played young will turner looks a lot like a small Orlando *good casting there*
Then it finally showed him as a grown up. I just want to point out that when this happened there was a girl a couple rows behind us that just screamed. *we all know this kind of scream and by now I think poor Orlando knows it too. * Anyway, he looked so cute. The outfit works for him. He's real funny because he accidentally breaks something in the Swann mansion when no one is looking and his reaction to that is hilarious. I think that's what he does best in this movie. Just those reactions and comebacks (to Jack's sayings) are what make him funny. Johnny is the ideal pirate. He's drunk (at least he seems that way throughout the movie), he's tricky, he's weird, he's hilarious. The opening scene with him will most definitely make people laugh out loud. *I know my Mom did* The fight scene between him and will is great. I've only seen it in clips so when it's put together it looks fantastic. Although i must say, since this is a Disney movie and a lot of kids will be seeing it, i don't think their going to get the part were Jack asks Will, right after he tells Will he should get a girl, if Will is a eunuch. He keeps calling him that throughout the whole movie. That's really something you want to be explaining to your kids.
The attack on Port Royal is great. A lot of good effects here. Although in my opinion when the pirate grabs jacks throat that is the only part where the skeleton animation looked a little too fake.
Then there was the stealing of the interceptor by Will and Jack. Jacks comeback to Will's "I'd die for her," is funny. I think only because when people have seen that part it seemed like a serious part, and then Jack had to turn it around. How they get to the Dauntless first is great. Everyone in the theater was laughing.
There were some things that to me were like goofs
1) when you first see Will as a grown up, he doesn't really have a mustache and beard thing going, he actually looks a little clean shaven, but when you see him in the forge, he does.
2) This i don't get. When the pirates are leading Will into the caves to kill him, one of the pirates tells him not to be scared seeing as it will only be a prick on the finger, but then another pirate comes up behind him and says that Will is only half Turner (Bootstrap Bill Turner) and that in order for the curse to be lifted that they will need to spill all of Will's blood. Yet at the end, Will only slices his hand and covers two coins with it and that lifts the curse. I'm not sure if that's a goof or not, i just found it a bit confusing.
Anyway I'm not to good at writing reviews so all I'm going to say is it is definitely a movie to see.
Oh yea by the way i Orlando's impression of Johnny Depp is good. At least i think that was the impression he was talking about in the interviews.
And for everyone, if you insist on waiting *which happens to be a long wait, believe me* for the end of the credits to see the extra scene, just warning you it isn't a minute long, more like 30 seconds long. If you want to know what the scene is read below.
Well, that's my first shot at a movie review. I'm seeing the movie again tomorrow with my sister, so i hope everyone enjoys it.
*******Spolier************
It starts with an opening shot of the cave, the chest, and Barbossa's dead body. It then cuts to waterway and you see the monkey swimming *looking so cute*. It's cuts to the chest, which the lid is opened part way. The monkey reaches in and grabs one of the coins and turns skeleton then turns around and lunges at the camera with it's mouth open.

Hey, guys!
Like I said, didn't make it to the screening in D.C...however, I seen 2 showings of it back-to-back today in VA Beach :). It was a BLAST, we had an interactive audience both times (some sang along to "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me", and lots cheered and laughed and gasped at all the right times), and it enhanced, for me, the movie-going experience. Anyways, on to my review...
The movie was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I have been waiting for 7 months to see it, and I gotta say it surpassed my expectations :D. The plot worked out perfect. I LOVED how things flowed w/ the love triangle (Will-Elizabeth-Norrington)- although, my one complaint was it seemed like Norrington gave Elizabeth up too easily. It was good, tho, how they showed Norrington's reluctant approval of Will, and the "passing on" of the sword and the metaphor of it w/ Elizabeth. Also, loved how Jack had an undying love for his ship, and treated "her" like a real woman. I liked how the writers made you feel a bit of sympathy for the bad pirates, instead of making them the typical 1-dimensional bad guys. Also got a MAJOR kick out of the little sparks that flew w/ Jack and Elizabeth, like where he uses her to escape the first time, and makes her put his things on him, and when they're stranded on the island- the island was one of my two favorite scenes, and I LOVED the whole "what about the rum?!" thing- it was HILARIOUS!!! Also, LOVED the sword fighting scene, esp. where they fought in the rafters- Orlando seriously made me think for a few moments that he WAS Errol Flynn!!! The skeletons were amazing and freakin' scary. The gallows scene was absolutely amazing- Orlando REALLY needs to play a musketeer, I tell you! He looks gorgeous, and is very swashbuckling :). Tortuga was my absolute fave part of the movie, tho- all the characters are lively and entertaining, and even the town itself seems to be a character all its own. Will gets to do some comic relief, which is fantastic- I about died laughing when the wench at the tavern came on to Will, and poor Will was trying to slowly sneak away from her *LOL*. The whole Isla De Muerta set was amazing, and all the battles there were awesome :). And, of course, I can't leave out that kiss...I can see why Kiera's been so boastful of the kiss ;). It was definately one of those "romantic, take-your-breath-away" kisses, and I must say I would've LOVED to've traded places with Kiera :).
Johnny was AMAZING! His entrance in the film, like most everyone else has already said, was UNFORGETTABLY HILARIOUS!!! He even tried to seem courageous and noble despite the fact his dingy was goin' down *LOL*. He completely pulled off the "pirates-were-like-rock-stars" thing he's mentioned before, and then some! He definately steals a lot of the scenes he's in, with lines like "Clearly, you've never been to Singapore", and my fave, "Welcome to the Caribbean, love" *LOL*. He was a very charming pirate, and you just can't help but love him! :)
Orlando...where do I start? *LOL* He was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS as Will. His entrance wasn't as memorable as Jack's, but he still had quite a funny one (breaking a candle off a wall fixture, and hurrying to hide it- priceless!). You can visibly see Will's love and devotion to Elizabeth (as Jack said, "Not all treasure is gold and silver"), and Orlando does a stunning job of exhibiting his love, his hurt, and his happiness towards Elizabeth throughout the film. Even as the earnest, straight-forward hero, he is captivating to watch; for example, in the scene where Will learns more about his father from Pintel, and the scene below-deck with Will and Elizabeth, Orlando expresses so much with his face, especially his eyes. Orlando does absolutely amazing in this role, and I only hope that if there is a sequel, that he'll be back as Will.
Geoffrey Rush was fantastic as Barbossa. He was scary, yet you could feel sympathetic towards him at the same time. His speech to Elizabeth about not being able to feel anything had the ability to change your mind about him, even if only for a minute. Geoffrey's fighting was excellent as well. Again, Barbossa could've been your cookie-cutter bad guy, but instead, Geoffrey took him and made him something more.
Kiera was excellent, especially for being one of the only females in the entire cast. Still, she was able to more than hold her own. Her portrayal of Elizabeth was AWESOME, and sooooo not your typical damsel-in-distress (with a line like, "You like pain? Try wearin' a corset!"), adding an element of sassiness and nobility to Elizabeth. Kiera, I would say, is probably the luckiest one in the film- she's not only stranded on a deserted island with Johnny, but is wooed and eventually kissed by Orlando like there's no tomorrow. Kiera excels as the lead heroine, managing to help save her man a few times throughout the movie. This is the first work i've seen Kiera in, and I can definately tell it won't be her last.
And I can't mention the lead cast without mentioning the supporting cast. Jack Davenport as Norrington is, to use a British term, "smashing" ;). He has a bit of dry humor, but it works, especially when he was onscreen with Johnny. Jonathon Pryce was great as well, as Governor Swann, and Kevin McNally as Gibbs was hilarious! Also have to point out some of the extras, like Anna Maria, who kicked major booty, and many of the prominent members of both Jack and Barbossa's crews. Everyone did an excellent job.
I've seen this movie twice now, and even that isn't enough! I can't wait to see it again- it's definately worth the money :).
From Michelle 07/09/03
I just got home from seeing POTC opening night in the US and I was thrilled with it. Alright, of course every Orlando Bloom fan will agree that there isn't nearly enough Orlando in the film, but he is an outstanding character. Charming and gorgeous, as always, as well as relaying a lot of emotion and expression through his brown eyes (Yay! No blue contacts!). It was his eyes the whole movie... just amazing... The camera loves him in this film. His character was so moral, and had such a believable innocence... just amazing. Every fan will fall in love with him once again... I know I did!
As for Johnny Depp... wow. He was incredibly funny with at times very dark humor. The makeup didn't get in the way of his performance, which surprised me. He was great. Very believable pirate. His speech patterns were perfect. All in all, the action was nonstop and had me gripping my chair going "Oh my God!" The action sequences were flawless. Oh course, the plot had its very small weak spots (still don't truely understand about Will's father... but, no spoilers, you'll see!) but it was the best pirate move I've ever seen (and will go back and see again). There was a tiny similarity to LOTR (the medallion calling out to the pirates) that amused me. Go figure, right? Anyway, this is a huge review! I loved the movie, go see it! Orlando is amazing, the rest of the cast is great, and you won't stop laughing and gasping and freaking out during it. It's pretty intense! And of course, you won't stop loving Orlando in all of his swash-buckling glory!
From Naomi 07/09/03
Just got back from seeing POTC, I thought it was fantastic...Johnny Depp was hilarious. Really really funny. My fav part is when he docked his ship at the beginning. Ha. Orlando was a perfect sidekick but managed to stick out. Of course he's gorgeous but a really good actor, great timing...I'm not gonna say anything about the plot for anyone else who hasn't seen it. But go see it, not just for Orlando. Even my boyfriend was converted (he wanted to see T3) LOL. he liked Keira... :)
From Rachel 07/09/03
Hi! I saw POTC today and I was just blown away. It exceeded all my expectations and has turned me into a huge Johnny Depp Fan!
I have always loved Johnny Depp, but his role as Jack was amazing. He did so well and was always making a crack on Will or just being funny. I loved Johnny's adaption of Keith Richards. He did a very nice job! One of my favorite things he did was at the end, when he was leaving to go back to the Black Pearl, he says to Elizabeth, "You know, Elizabeth, things never would have worked out between us." and then he turns to Will in that huge, flopy hat and sayd, "Nice hat." I also loved when he and Elizabeth were standed on the beach and she got rid of all his rum, and he got so pissy about it. That was great.
Orlando was awesome. He did so well and I'm so proud of him. There are some actors who just can't escape being the same kind of character that they are best known for over and over, always being like the one they are best known for. But Orlando managed to make you forget all about his pointy ears! I think that must be a hard thing to do, because, in my opinion, Tom Cruise can't even do that. Whenever you read an Article about Orlando, somewhere it is mentioned about how he is the elf with the blonde hair. Now he can be more than that! He was so cute and so believable. He was so determined and I loved that about him. And he made the cutest little jokes.
I thought this was a fun movie and I loved every second of it. I knew I'd like it, but I thought that maybe the whole un-dead skeleton thing would be extremely corny and that the design teams would try too hard to make them look realistic. But they were so great and I was amzaed that there were actual scenes, minutes, of the skeletons fighting and talking. It just made the movie much more fun.
I just can't get over how great it was!! I don't even know how many more times I plan to see it.
From Maria 07/09/03
Hey everyone, just submitting my review like everyone else did. I watched POTC 2night, and all i can say is WOW. It was seriously an amazing movie. It was hilarious and the special effects were done really well. Obviously Orlando looked gorgeous but didn't everyone expect that anyway? He just made me melt, his facial expressions were priceless throughout the entire movie. Definitely a great role for orly. Johnny Depp was also amazing, his acting was too good. I laughed in just about every scene that involved CAPTAIN jack sparrow ("captain, it's captain jack sparrow"). I recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. And if u have seen it....go see it again, i know i am on sunday...hehe, ciao for now....lotsa love.
From Jenny 07/09/03
Well I just saw POTC and I loved it. GREAT movie and not just because Orlando is in it. It was hysterical, creepy, and romantic. Johnny Depp was absolutely perfect. I loved this movie and the plus was that I got to watch Orlando for over two hours. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Keira was also really good, I was expecting to not like here and not just because she was the love interest of Orlando.I think he's gorgeous but I'm not crazy enought to think he's mine. Seriously I have to share him with all of you!!!;-) NO actually she just came off as I don't know annoying in interviews and stuff but her character was really likeable. The sword fights were great and so was the rest of the action. The special effects Rocked, they were totally believable. Orlando was of course really good!! I still can't help but see a little Legolas in him though. Over all this movie was just great if you haven't seen it go see it. I think also that this movie proves that Orlando has more range as an actor than people give him. Well I've rambled on for to long!! Thanks for taking the time to read this! :-)

There's only one word to descrbe this movie, Whoa!!! I loved it and i plan on
seeing it again and again! Orlando was super sexy with his unbuttoned shirt,
and Johnny Depp was hilarious! The acting was fantastic and the story was
gifted. The special effects were incredible, it was so interesting to see in one
second felsh then in another second bones. I hope all who have seen it enjoyed it and those who haven't will.

Jas,
I know you have a ton of fan reviews already, so I'll just add what I noticed that I haven't seen posted so far:
First of all, let me mention that I went out in a torrential downpour to see this movie, and was soaked almost the entire movie. Luckily, it was so interesting and suspenseful (and Bloom-ful) that I hardly noticed. This movie is very funny, and has something in it for everyone. My screening was sold out (no big surprise), but I was surprised at how many guys were there. I was expecting mostly women because of the JD/OB combo, but I would say the male/female ratio was 50/50.
The question "Savvy?" is asked a lot in the movie, which I don't know if it is British speak or Pirate speak, but I have a feeling it will catch on here in the US. Although Johnny's character really does steal the show, I am happy to report that Orlando had audible support from the audience. When he first appears, there was clapping, and in future scenes, you could hear women sighing. :-)
I have plans to see this movie again this weekend, I know I missed some stuff because I was staring at Orlando for every scene he was in, and also, just because the movie is that good. There were many positive comments from other people in the audience afterward, so I think the general consensus is that this is a must-see!
From Brenda 07/09/03
OMG! POTC was awesome!!!! IT was a tad bit long, but orlando looked so good! He had a few cheesy lines, but i wont ruin it for anyone in case they havent seen it. I am seeing it again, and i definately recommend it to anyone. The movie theater was full, and everybody clapped at the beginning and at the end. He looked so amazingly good!!
His acting wasn't too shabby either, it was definately strange seeing him outside of LOTR because i havent seen him in anything else.
Everyone should see it more than once!! You'll love it!!
From Cora 07/09/03
Hey i saw the movie twice today!! once in the morning n once at night...i love that movie, i didnt kno it was possible to love orlando anymore but after watching it i do...he looks so adorable, with those deep puppy-dog eyes, n u can tell he has a fierce sprirt when it comes to saving his girl. Johnny Depp was completly hysterical, i laughed just looking at him, his movements n facial expressions were too much to handle on my stomach lol. Georffry Rush did great with portraying the pirate, making u really understand how they dont feel anything..that one scene with Kiera was very well done...Kiera also was very good, that was the first time i saw her act, n she played her character very well, looks like there is more to come from her. Also the plot was very different from most in movies...i mean the whole idea of saving the girl n all is very normal, but the curse n the story of the pirates was very new, n a nice change to the average movie...
The action in the movie was so good, it was hard to focus on anything else, like the popcorn, i couldnt keep my eyes off the digital animation n fight sequences. The romance i dont think was focused on enough, really they only had a couple "intimate" scenes together, n they werent even that intimate...it was hard to kno y they loved eachother. This is defintly the top summer blockbuster, its got everything ud want from a movie, all nicely put into one, action, horror, suspense, romance, comedy all woven together to make a movie everybody is gonna enjoy. Even the music was amazing!! But most of all it was a very cute/adorable, holding ur stomach type movie, u just cant stop smiling about it after watching it. Im gonna b spending a fortune on movie tickets... lol!
From insanemuse 07/09/03
I went and saw the movie today. I absolutely adored it. At times, it was a bit long and drawn out, but just watching Orly made up for it. Completely and totally. And Johnny Depp was absolutely brilliant. He made the movie totally worth going. I would recomend it for everyone....
From 'Albus Dumbledore' 07/09/03
I went and saw Pirates of the Caribbean on opening night, being a vague fan of Orlando Bloom as well as Johnny Depp. Overall, the movie was entertaining, exciting, yet very Disney. Depp basically carried the whole movie, and did a pretty good job at that. The action was okay, although the special effects were not the greatest. Orlando Bloom was fantastic, and my heart jumped every time they had a wonderfully close up shot of him (which was quite often). The leading female was horrid, though. She always made these daft expressions where her mouth would half-hang open and her eyes never showed any emotion. How they ever managed to find her a good actress is beyond me. The plot went as a plot goes, quite repetetive, as the good side always won. Needless to say, it always does turn out that way in Disney movies. Besides its many flaws that I have listed above, it was thrillingly entertaining as well as superb and I reccomend it highly to anyone, especially Bloom fans.
From Johanna Angelina 07/09/03
When I walked into the theater I was thinking that there was no way for the movie to live up to the hype. So I sat back hoping for an OK movie with fabulous eye-candy (who needs a plot with Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp playing opposite of one another). I was horribly, horribly wrong! The first five minutes set in the course for adventure, romance and a heaping helping of laughter thanks to Captain Jack Sparrow. I have always been a fan of Johnny Depp (ever since his Nightmare on Elmstreet debut), but I must say that his acting even surpassed what I dreamed he could do and I give my actors a lot of credit. The effects and story were excellently laid out with a lot of attention to the ride for inspiration. Walt is smiling from down on his movie company tonight. I give it two hooks way up and for all the land lubbers out thar that be spekin ill I say look alive because "Dead Men Tell No Tells"

i just got back from seeing pirates of the carribean... and i have to say that is definetely one of my favorite movies now! it was absolutely amazing, nothing was dull about it and i was sad when it was over. plus having orlando bloom in it and johnny depp, i mean what else can beat that? orlando did the best job and looked soooo hot, if you haven't seen it yet, you are definetely missing out and you should get up and go see it right now.
From Nicole 07/09/03
OMG,OMG! I just came back from the movies and POTC was awesome.Orlando was great:I dont want to reveal any spoilers but if Will would have trusted Jack from when they were at Isla de la Muerte everything would have been fine.People who saw this know what i mean.Anyways, Johnny Depp was awesome and hilarious everyone laughed.Orlando was funny as well ,when he did the impression of Jack,so funny ,and when he broke the candle holder, hilarious.Keira Knightly was also really good but the part when she tries to make a deal wit Barbossa, was not as convincing. But you could tell she really cared about Will.I kinda think that she didn't deserve the little arguement Will gave when he found out Elizabeth had taken his medallion.
The movie had everything ,Romance/Action/suspence/Adventure.I even heard people complimenting the movie's genre right after.I dont want to spoil anything but i cant help myself:The part where Will almost drowns you could really see that Elizabeth looked at him with this face that said"I dont want u to die cause I love you"kind thing it was so romantic.(he doesnt die though).Ok thats it no more spoilers.Overall i give 10 stars if it went that high.I luuuuuuved it.I didnt see the clip at the end though,i left when the credits started. But it was great Johnny and Orli totally stole the show.Go out and see it. PROVE PEOPLE WRONG THAT NOT ALL PIRATE MOVIES CAN SINK.
From Dean 07/09/03
it was my favorite orlando movie i've seen but all his other movies were great too.
From Ray 07/09/03
Wow! This movie is one of the best I've seen. It was action-packed and... Swashbuckling?... Well, whatever that means, it was good. There are some critics who criticized Kiera Knightly's acting skills, but she was wonderful. Johnny Depp stole the show, while Orlando Bloom was a convincing lead man. I have to say, it was funnier than I presumed and kept my attention. Despite being over two hours long, this movie is over long before you want it to be. From the first frame to the last, you'll surely not be dissapointed!
From Brandi 07/09/03
Just got back from POTC...as I suspected, it's amazing, awesome, excellent! And also hilarious...Johnny Depp plays Sparrow perfectly. Orlando is beyond words. The movie, in short, ROCKS! I expected it to be a little scary for kids, but my 6-year-old daughter was not frightened. GO SEE IT!
The theatre was pretty full, and for a Wednesday night I think that says a lot. The first time Orlando appeared onscreen I heard several female voices say his name.... Oh, and I sat through the frickin' long credits...it was worth it, totally cute.
From Alex Elizabeth 07/09/03
The movie was great, Immediately I want to see it again but they where sold out. One funny thing was when My mom and I went to check times another group came up and started a line. So we were the first to get tickets to pirates of the Caribbean on the day it was released. we got the best seats and it was great.
Johnny Depp was hilarious I love it when he says "Oh I love weddings drinks everywhere" so funny. He really go a grab on that character and did a good job.
Orlando was great, handsome, everything we all think of him all put into one with a Little pirates attitude. Didn't like it when he hit jack over the head with a oar but it was funny afterwards at what jack was trying to say to all the other pirates who had caught him. All the characters in the movie are great and if you plan to stay and watch the end of the credits prepare your self those credits be long. It was a great movie absolutely one of my favorite yet. I give it the highest rating imaginable
loved it hope ya-ll will to
From Veronica 07/09/03
I just saw POTC today and I thought it was amazing. Truly, at first, I thought I was going to be disappointed because of all of the hype for this movie, but thank the Lord I was wrong. This movie is definitely an action movie, with the usual happy-disney "ending." Throughout the movie, the comic relief are hilarious. Also, Orlando Bloom shows not only can he be an elf, he can also be hot as hell as a pirate! The movie is somewhat predictable, but maybe it is because I read all the spoilers months before the movie even was out, yet to a "virgin" to the whole Pirates of the Caribbean I bet the movie was as stunning as ever!
Johnny Depp was hilarious. He is definitely one of the best actors of his generation. All the acting was brilliant. Keira was beautiful. If I was a guy, I'd have a crush on her. Yet, she seemed the same to me as in Bend It Like Beckham, but maybe since I'm a little jealous. (At least I admit it.) I think this is a movie that you must see in the theater to get the full effects! I'm going tomorrow for my Sweet 16 to see it with my friends, so maybe I'll catch something I did not today. Oh, and btw, the whole movie is just IRONY. You should process what everyone says and remember it, because it always ironic at the end ;-)
I unfortunately stayed for the thing after the credits, and having to use the loo, it seemed like forever. I swear, they credited everyone from the people who brushed Johnny Depp's weave to Jerry's assistant's assistant. Well, if I were everyone, I'd hurry to the bathroom, then come back--believe me, you'll have time. *spoiler* And when the FINAL scene shows, its only for a minute or so, and I could see why there could be a POTC 2.
****spoiler**** The cute monkey just swims to the treasure and gets the gold, thus cursed again, and then screams at the camera and DONE. *end of spoiler*
From MLe18r 07/09/03
I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean today. Wow! It was so much more than I expected. Orlando was great, he made these cute little faces throughout the movie. Johnny Depp was really good too, he was so much more funny than I thought he could be. I am definitely going to see this movie again, it was the perfect blend of action, adventure, comedy, romance, and of course, Orlando!
From Clayre 07/09/03
Today is the ninth of July and today I saw Pirates of the Carribean. The movie was beautifully mastered, and along with an exceptional cast I must say that Orlando does fit well into the "pirate" persona. Johnny Depp, well known for his comedic character in "Benny and June", puts on quite a performance as not only a pirate known for talking too much, but also the tormented clown of the high seas .
Hysterical moments offer both Johnny and Orlandoa way to show their funny side though I wonder if there any injuries during the making of the film (only because some of those scenes looked like they hurt.) Kiera Knightley, I envy her tremendously, is Orlando's love interest, fills out my expectations and inevitably (and to my great distress) kissess Orlando in the end. Lucky. She does a fine job, not only as the DMD (damsel in distress) but is a fine speciman for a heroine. Not to mention her scenes with Geoffrey Rush (who inexplicably does a fantastic job playing the infamous Captain Barbossa). Like I said, beautifully done ten out of ten as it were.
P.S. Any who love Orlando had darn well see this movie. He was Beautiful. Ahhhhh.....
From Amber 07/09/03
Hey! My name is Amber. I totally loved the movie!! I give it two big thumbs up. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the whole cast had such a thick british accent.. I had trouble understanding what they were saying. All of my friend were kind of lost in the beginning because of the whole accent thing. Through the whole thing we keep asking each other "Oh wat did they say?". But this broke the pirate movie curse FOR SURE! The movie theater I went to was totally packed in. I was in shock because I hadn't seen so many people so hyped since the Matrix. Orlando ROCKED!
In Lord Of The Rings, Orlando introduced himself to the world as a serious elf, but this time he comes as a funny, brave, and gorgeous pirate. Orlando has the ability to get into character pretty deeply, because I have to say I totally bought his "I'm only a british lad trying to save the love of my life" look. It was totally awsome. My friend, who I have to say is NOT a big Orlando fan, was totally in love with him by the end of the film. She told me that his eyes totally projected what he was feeling ^_^ I couldn't agree more. I went to see the movie because I thought I would see Orlando say a couple of words, but I could WAY more than that. Like my friend said, Orlando made these faces that made the movie so real, and it made it twice as hard for me to look at his adorable face { I started screaming once ^_^}.
Keira Knightley was great! especially with her faints ^_^ I thought that was hilarious. At the beginning I didn't really like the idea of her playing Elizabeth Swan.. but now having been watched the movie I love her! She took the " damsel in distress" thing and totally turned it around. I think she's the toughest chick out there ^_^.
Johnny Deep... the funniest thing ever! He was so great. My bestfriend is a guy, and he didn't really like the idea of seeing a movie with Oralndo {not a fan either} but he said that Johnny Deep totally made it up. But I think I'll be seeing the movie again :-D I loved it that much!
From Allie 07/09/03
My name is Allie, and i went to see it with some friends today (july 9th) and it was absolutley fantastic! Jonny Depp was great, Orlando Bloom was mind-blowing! The acting was wonderful, the special effects were outstanding, and the whole movie was amazing. Ten mintues into the movie and i decided that i'm buy the DVD when in comes out, but of course i was going to buy it anyway. I was so great i'm planning on seeing it again next week.....eeeee! i can't wait to see it again.
p.s. it's a great movie go see it! and if you have go see it again!
From aquatikt 07/09/03
what a fun movie!
i've been waiting for so long to see this movie, and i just couldn't believe it when the opening scene of a young elizabeth swann came onto the movie screen. there were many funny gags, and the audience responded quite well. i think the only awkward "this is where you're supposed to laugh" part was the familiar line where keira says, "you like pain? try wearing a corset." everyone in the theater was sort of like, 'hm, heard that one before...'
the performance given by johnny depp was just magnificent, and only reinforces the fact that he's a great character actor. i enjoyed every moment he was on screen, and i think the rest of the audience could say the same.
keira knightley's performance was fine, nothing too special. she was cuter in 'bend it like beckham.' i did find it amusing, however, the way she pulled off the whole problem of the corset being too tight.
And of course there was orlando. [sigh] what a wonderful man he is. i treasured every second he was on screen, and only wish that my name was elizabeth so i could hear him say it. i don't know what more to say about his part in the film except that it was great...one of my favorite parts was when he was fighting johnny, there was a close up of orlando's face and his arm holding a sword close to his cheek. you could see his elf tattoo because i guess that was the one time someone forgot to cover it up. throughout the rest of the movie, he's got a little fabric around his arm...that was just so cute i thought...so all in all, a very enjoyable movie, sure to be a big hit at the box office this weekend. girls everywhere are going to swoon over orlando, but hey...we saw him first...
From Veronica 07/09/03
Pirates of the Caribbean is the best movie ever! I loved it it was so much better than i thought! Orlando is so HOTT!
From Meghan 07/09/03
i LOVED this movie!!! it had everything i expected...good laughs, great plot, action, adventure, romance, and course a HOTTIE named orlando bloom!!! orlando was great and of course looking sexy and johnny was funny and kiera was very pretty and was so not a damsel in distress. i would see this movie over and over again because its one of those movies that u could watch a lot and still find new things to love about it!!:-)
From Megan 07/09/03
Hello to fellow Bloomers,
Let me just begin by saying that when I first saw Orlando in Fellowship of the Ring (riding in on his horse and looking very sexy) I thought he was pretty hot. But after seeing "Pirates" nothing can compare to the hotness that was unleashed before my eyes as well as the eyes of my friends. As i sat in the movie (while enjoying the actual story too) I was begging for the next Orlando scene to come. he was SO INCREDIBLY GORGEOUS!!!!
I believe that this movie has established Orlando's real acting talent. He can bring a youg man who is starving for a life on the high seas (and also with the ambition of winning the love of Elizabeth Swann) to life without making the whole love story between him and Kiera look horribly corny and uninteresting.
Maybe i just sound like someone who is babbling on about Orli's good looks (which, in a way, i am) but this movie is, by far, the best to come out this summer!!!
If those fo you go to the movie and find the story uninteresting, you certainly will be begiled by the handsome looks of Orlando as the young Will Turner and at times find yourself close to passing out!!!!!
To bad i didn't like it. LOL!
From Kristin 07/09/03
Hi, my name is Kristin. Today (July 9th) I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Curs of the Black Pearl. OMG!!! For starters, it was a great movie. I think it will probably be one of the best summer movies this year. It is light hearted and Johny Depp is hilarious. Among other things, Orlando Bloom! Besides his beautiful looks and charm, his portrayal of Will Turner is amazing. He's dramatic, sensitive, and funny at the same time. Even though I wanted so much to be Keira Knightley cuz she got to kiss Orlando and be the object of his affection, I felt that Orlando and Johnny were a great match and I can't wait until I see the movie again in a few days!! I hope everyone enjoys the movie as much as I did!
From Achn4linkin 07/09/03
Fantastic movie!!! Lots of action ... lots of Orli.... lots of not exactly intentional and orchestrated laughs. The fight scenes are amazing as are the effects. If one thinks it is just a spoof of the ride ... then they are very mistaken. The story line is brilliant and whoever doesn't like it should be scolded. I highly recommend it to anyone ... not just for the eye candy but for the great action, acting and I must admit the Johnny Depp is marvelous as Jack Sparrow. I also ask that all who see this stay through the credits for an extra surprise.
From Nik 07/09/03
Wow...I am honestly speechless at having just seen PotC. But what I can say is, Johnny Depp is my hero. LOL But that's not all that I have to say. Orlando did a MAGNIFICENT job at playing Will Turner and his swordsmenship was by far the best I have seen. He and Johnny made a great team and he had wonderful chemistry with Keira as well. The entire cast could not have been any more brilliant and props to Verbinski and Bruckheimer with their work. I think Disney did an awesome job for their first PG-13 movie. lol Avast ye mateys! Tis a jolly damn good movie! :D
From Kiri 07/09/03
I've just finished watching Pirates, and I really
enjoyed it! It definitely was one of the best movies
I've seen this summer. Knowing that everyone will
probably see it, I won't go in great detail about the
movie... except for that Johnny Depp truly steals the
show (he was hilarious!) Also, for people waiting
after the credits to see the clip, you might want to
tell them that it's really not worth the wait. It's
just a 10-sec clip of the monkey going and stealing
another piece of Aztec gold and become skeletal. No
Orlando. O well, I think we saw enough of him! ;-)
From Britt 07/09/03
I am still completely in awe. Before the movie even began, I found myself amazed at the variation of the audience: men and women, young and old... Though I must admit, it seemed to be mostly girls between the ages of 13 and 16. I'd never really seen anything like it... the place was packed! Many people had trouble finding seats, so I was glad I'd gotten there early.
The beginning of the film was quite light and humourous, but the mood got more serious as the plot thickened, as I expected it would. It was a well-written script, and the parts were played exceptionally.
Johnny Depp was absolutely stunning as Jack Sparrow. I had this feeling that he'd added quite a bit to the character on his own terms, and it was a true benefit to the movie. He was unique and funny and really exemplified his talent. I think he was an audience-favourite in the end. I'll admit, I am biased towards Orlando Bloom because he's just beyond goodlooking. He seemed to play the hearthrob type really well, but I don't really think he's found "his role" yet. He's obviously got a promising future though, so there are plenty of different roles for us to look forward to! He was quite good when it came to acting ability.. It seems like he's still getting used to the business, which is understandable. I did like him better in the Lord of the Rings, but I suppose it all depends on the character too.
As for Keira Knightley, she was beautiful and funny and extremely talented. I really liked her character, but I think the chemistry between Elizabeth and Will could have used a little strengthening. Geoffrey Rush was like the mysterious bad guy, and as I'd suspected, he played his part with real class. He was scary in all the right ways, and I really loved how he seemed so... well... piratey.
In my opinion, the effects were the best part (aside from Orlando, of course). They were actually realistic, and I loved loved loved how they made those skeletons. They really blew me away, and they were perfectly frightening. I even liked how they chose their comic relief, as did the 8-year-olds behind me.
The only thing I didn't like were the 15-year-old girls in front of me who giggled non-stop and pointed at the screen during Orlando's close-ups. I'm 15 too, and I absolutely adore the man, but I can control myself! I'll probably go back and see the movie again so I can hear all those parts I missed due to their relentless squeals.
All in all, it was a great film and I was very pleased. I'm thinking sequel, or maybe even prequel, which is always fun. I think everyone should see this movie and decide for themselves, although I'm quite sure you'll enjoy it too.
From Lily 07/09/03
Well, I just got back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean. I'd probably give this movie a B- rating. Orlando is as sexy as ever, but to be brutally honest, his role doesn't give him much chance to prove himself as a good actor. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush get all the wicked lines, leaving Orlando with the generic 'hero' type scenes.
Speaking of Depp and Rush, these two were fantastic. They really leave you wanting more. I think they could have cut this film back a bit (it's 2 1/2 hours long) and given the story a bit more depth. The special effects, though, were AMAZING! I mean freakin' awesome! It's worth seeing this movie just for Orlando and the effects. That's not to say that the plot line sucks, though. It's pretty coherent and gives you a few surprises.
And don't forget to clap at the end when Orlando's name comes up! You may look stupid but hey, a true fan will do anything!
From Darice H 07/09/03
I thought it was fabulous, the movie of the summer. It was so funny in so many places and of course Orlando was so hot he smoked. The Pirates when they turned into skeletons is so awsome, and Johnny Depp plays Capt Jack Sparrow so wonderfully over the top.I think everyone needs to see this movie and I would definately give it four, no, five stars.
From Vivian 07/09/03
I got the chance to go to a preview screening in Orlando Florida last night. The movie was brilliant! It was so much more then I expected it would be. You were drawn to the movie because of Orlando Bloom and walked out talking about Johnny Depp. His role was fabulous, he really got under the skin of his character.
Orlando's performance was good too. You couldn't help but feel sorry for him in the beginning because of his love for Elizabeth, but in the end you can't help but feel happy for him. He played the role of Will Turner very well. I was very impressed.
I was blown away by this movie. I never thought a pirate movie would be this AWESOME! It has everything you could ask for in a movie, adventure, drama, romance, and most of all, humor. This movie is impressively Witty.
Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) has some very good come backs that you can't help but laugh at.
Like I said before, most people are drawn to the movie because of Orlando Bloom, but five minutes into the movie, you can't help but fall in love with Captain Jack Sparrow.
The special effects were great too, the skeletons look real, amazingly and nothing looks fake. One thing that made the movie that much better was the music, I just know I will buy the soundtrack, the music keeps you on the edge of your seat as you watch the sword fighting.
All in all, you can see, I thought this movie was brilliant! Gore Verbinski took an average story and made it into a movie that will be hard to forget anytime soon. And Jerry Bruckheimer has done it again, you couldn't ask for more.
I give this movie a two thumbs up.....and I guarantee all us teenage girls will wish they are Keira Knightley at the end of the movie..... *wink wink*. :-) Its the best movie this summer! Thats a fact!
From Chelsey 07/09/03
Hi, A while ago I saw POTC, it was the best movie ever, it deserves 5 stars. I mean you just have to see it because if you couldn't that is the saddest story ever
It was funny, adventureous, and only the best movie I ever saw, it was better than Lord of the Rings.
From Nikki 07/09/03
OH MY GOD!That movie was like the best movie I have ever seen this year!I was so glad that it was so much better than Legally Blonde 2. Orlando was very hot, sexy, and not to mention really funny! Johnny Depp was great, and so was Keira. They were all great! Cheers to you all!
From Mandy 07/09/03
Pirates of the Caribbean was a very awesome movie!! The coolest part of
it was how the pirates turned into skeletons when in moonlight!! Of
course Orlando was a HUGE bonus! he was really sexy especially when he
got dirty!
From Michelle H 07/09/03
I just got back from seeing POTC a while ago and it was amazing! My little brother and I wanted to go to the earliest showing because we figured everyone else would go to a later one. When we got there, there were hardly any seats left! But we managed to find good ones. Orlando and Johnny are so great together! It was a very funny movie and it had a great story. It is definitely sequel worthy! This proves even further how great Orlando is as an actor!
The characters were so wonderful! Like the two pirates who were always together! (one had a wood eye and always got splinters!) I liked how they said that they felt like the Trojans in the wood horse when the pirates were going to take over the boat towards the end! It reminded me of another movie! ;-) I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet so i'll stop here. But I must say that Johnny did an amazing job playing Jack and Orlando SO owned the role of Will!
From Allison 07/09/03
I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean, and let me tell you, it was AWESOME. It had terrific special effects and Orlando and Johnny were a good team (well for most of the time). I thought it was hilarious especially when one of the crew explains why Capt. Jack Sparrow (Depp) acts the way he does and Will Turner (Bloom) even mimics the hand motions. *LOL* I liked it just as much as L.O.T.R if not better. A must see on my list and I can't wait to buy it on video.
From Amy 07/09/03
The movie was great. It had alot of action, adventure, and it was funny. I say everyone should see it. One point in the movie Orlando is freeing Johnny from prison and he looks behind him to see if anyone is coming and he has the Legolas look. I thought that was cool. I give the movie 10,000 thumbs up! :)
From Samantha 07/09/03
OMG That was one of the best movies I have seen in a while other than Lord of the Rings. Johnny Depp was absolutely hilarious and Orlando looked so hot. The graphics were awesome and so were the special effects. I would recommend this to all of my friends and more. Though they shouldn't have kept us in so much suspense of when Will Turner was going to kiss Elizabeth Swan. Plus I loved the little hints of the classic Disneyland ride throughout the entire movie. But I guess it was pretty sad when I sang along with "Yo Ho, A Pirates Life for Me". And I loved the dog guarding the prisoners. That was a great movie, I loved it.
From Katharine 07/09/03
Jas, it was beyond amazing!!!! Despite the Orlando kissing Keira part.....but otherwise, fantastic!!!!!!!!
From Village Farmhouse 07/09/03
Hi! Just got back from the first showing of Pirates in my hometown. It was great! It was as good as I expected. Orlando was extremely handsome : ) There is also a small scene after the credits (not of Orli).
From Kitten071488 07/09/03
I was lucky enough to see this movie at a preview screening on July 8, and i'm very glad I did!
Pirates of the Caribbean was very different from what I expected. I thought I was going to be wacthing a scary adventure movie, and was prepared for jumpy scenes and creepy images, but shows how much I know. The movie was extremely entertaining. I dont think the movie couldnt have gone for 5 minutes without something funny happening, and that was awesome. The comedy just never got old!
I have to mention the special effects...ILM did it again with breath taking computer graphics. You forgot you're watching animated characters, thats how real they looked. Every detail was precise to the way they moved, talked, even the way their clothes swayed against them as they walked. And the actors did a great job with interacting with them. Keep in mind when the cast filmed scenes with the cursed pirates as they are skeletons, the actors were just interacting with nothing but air. If this movie has to be recognized for something, its the graphics. I am proud to be a Star Wars fan!
The story line was put together well...except for one thing. I won't mention it, but watch carefully during the fight between Depp and Rush's character. I'll say this, something happens that leaves much room for a sequal, but once again, its a very minor thing.
This was Johnny Depp's movie. He stole the screen countless times, from he first comes in (very funny moment!) to his last shot. Depp played the role wonderfully. He really went into Jack Sparrow's character, and I was very pleased by that. You forget you're even watching Johnny Depp play a character
Geoffrey Rush proved yet again that no one can play a bad ass villian like himself. I wasn't suprised watching him protray The damned captian of the Black Pearl. And boy, he can really fight with a sword! Not people cant protray an evil pirate without looking stupid, and Rush was one of those people. I guess this things just come easy for this.
I'm gonna say this now, even though it won't be hard for people who read this to figure out...But I am one of the Orlando Bloom freaks. I really thought they would make him the guy who would do all the cool moves and clap worthy moments, but he wasn't, that was Jack's job. Nevertheless, Bloom showed that looks don't mean anything, and wowed everyone with his great acting skill. He once again It was so strange seeing him without the Blonde wig and blue contacts, but it was a very welcome change. I can also honestly say he was the best with a sword. I really hope this movie paves the way for Orlando, this movie is just what he needed.
Keira Knightley did a good performance as well, but really wasn't in the spotlight of the movie. But she did have a couple "girls kick ass too" moments. This was a good movie for her to claim some more status in Hollywood.
This movie was so good...I was blown away by it. It's funny, has loads of action, a great plot that flows well, and the makings of a class A cast. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars
From Tatiana C 07/08/03
I went to the sneak preview of Pirates of the Caribbean last night and I was
absolutely speechless! Pirates is a first rate example that the impossible can
happen. My uncle is a non-believer in pirate movies because they usually aren't
very good...well dear uncle, I think you're going to believe in pirate movies
now!
I'd like to say that Orli did a magnificent job! Kudos to you! He had that
working-class boy thing going and it worked for him. He did it beautifully! I
think that this role is going to propel him from web-stardom to super-stardom!
Johnny Depp, may I say has stolen the show though. With his half-drunken
swagger and his clever mind...he is undoubtedly one of the best actors I have
ever seen! I think that he is marvelous the way that he can transform himself!
And Keira and Geoffrey did awesome jobs too. I liked how Keira (Elizabeth)
could hold her own, and how Geoffrey pulled off the um...celibate, non-
drinkin/eating pirate. They were great to watch.
All in all, I say that the entire cast made this movie a lark to watch and
it made you forget your "real" life for the 2+ hours it ran. Pirates will be
this year's #1 summer movie I'm sure!
PS: EVERYONE must go see this, or you're missing out on a blooming marvelous
movie!
PPS: I love Orlando Bloom! He was gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!!! And his acting was through the roof!!!!!
From Nancy 07/08/03
I saw POTC at the early preview yesterday. It was GREAT. Orlando was hot as usual. His impression of Johnny was VERY funny. Johnny however, stole every scene. I would have to say if Johnny and Geoffrey were not in it - it would have been that great.
I will have to see it again! Also the last bit at the end of the credits - not worth waiting for .
Even my husband who scoffs every time I talk about orli - was like, he is a great actor!
Go orli!
From Becky 07/08/03
I saw a previewed showing of POTC in DC! It was so great! Johnny Depp gave so much depth to his role as well as Orlando, he was so humble and of course as cute as ever.
As far as the movie as a whole, it is action packed, humorous, and even a little creepy. So, they covered about everything. Well done movie. well done. Everyone should see it!
From Brittany 07/08/03
OMG, I went to the prewiew screening last night, and Pirates of the Caribbean WAS SERIOULSY THE BEST MOVIE EVER!! Orlando was gorgous, and so cute w/ his impression of Johnny's character.. Johnny was hilarious...Keira was great.... It was such a good all around movie. action, comedy, and love. I have to say it was hard to watch Orlando and Keira kiss at the end though!! :o)
From BeckyLady 07/08/03
My roommate and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean last night. It was preview screening in Orlando, FL, and boy did the movie live up to our expectations. Only a couple of spoilers here. Orlando was beautiful, a wee bit on the dorkish side (but in an adorable way), and his acting was superb. His first scene was amazing, simply because...did I mention that he's beautiful? Not to mention the whole sword fight scene was fricking amazing. Love, love, loved it. Johnny Depp really did steal the show, but that's what we were all expecting anyway. The rumors that he might do a sequel made me a very happy little girl. Geoffery Rush really is a good actor, too. But we all knew that already. He really takes a back seat to Johnny, though.
My one disappointment? They took out the sharks...well, two disappointments. They didn't show how Will gets out of the ship when he's trapped later in the movie. Though it does add to the drama, I suppose, if you didn't read the junior adaptation first. Hehe...nevermind. Just one disappointment.
Anyway, this movie is definitely worth a first, second, third...many trips to the theatre. I'm already dying for the DVD and hopefully some behind the scenes and/or extended scenes. Yes, yes.
From Marilynn 07/08/03
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean at a downtown Minneapolis theater tonight. I won passes through the Entertainment Weekly's online drawing. Thanks to OrlandoMultimedia for the "heads up" on that one. The place was packed and we were searched and wanded before we could enter the theater.
POTC is a great, swashbuckling, summer film. It has more violence than the average Disney film (although nothing of real worry) but loads of comedy. The plot held some surprises and I gave an audible "Ohh" and then "Ahh" at one point.
Johnny steals the show. I wasn't sure I'd buy his Keith Richards/Pepe LePew take on Jack Sparrow but it works. You love this guy, even though you're pretty sure he smells bad. Orlando's Will Turner is very sweet and his sword play is a joy to watch. Watch for his mimic of Depp/Sparrow/Richards. Kiera's Elizabeth shows signs of a 21st Century gal, she doesn't wait for others to take care of her. It was a lot of fun to see Johnny and Orlando work together. I loved seeing the relationship between Jack and Will grow and I could easily believe that Johnny and Orlando enjoyed each other's company as actors.
The switches between real shots and special effects are seamless. I'm always pleased when a movie has innovative fight scenes and this movie has a couple of different ways of mixing it up. At one point, I was a bit confused about the line, "take a walk" and then laughed out loud when I realized where they were going with it. The mild spoiler ahead is ----- it took me back to that first trailer.
I think kids will enjoy this (as long as they're not easily scared) but adults should love it, too. I wouldn't mind a sequel at all, if this trio decided to come back for another go. Orlando got me there but Johnny delivered as well.
From Stef 07/08/03
I just got back from an advance screening last night of PoTC. It was wonderful! I just wanted to e-mail and thank OBM for linking to one of the contests (Cinema Confidential for this one) Never thought I'd win it, but I tried it on a whim and did! Since it was my father's birthday yesterday, we went to see it together. It was definitely an awesome present. I also wrote up a review for the movie as follows...
For starters, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl just pushed Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers from my Favorite Movie of All Time spot. It's that good.
The theater itself was the best I've ever been to. Ziegfield Theatre. Lovely interior, lots of friendly employees. The place itself was packed -- more than two hundred people, all jazzed. I talked to a guy while waiting on line who seemed pretty excited, which surprised me, considering I thought it'd just appeal to teens or something. I was definitely wrong. There were people of all ages and backgrounds, and everyone reacted the same. They clapped lots of times, they laughed, they cheered. It was wonderful. Usuallly where I live they never do that, so to see people clapping during the film was definitely something special, especially since it was often.
Gore Verbinski. Previous films include The Ring, Mouse Hunt.
What a talented director. Great shots, breathtaking cinematography. It felt olden in some parts, which fit the era. The colors, the music, everything just worked. Brilliant.
Orlando Bloom. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... He was so funny, so determined, so swashing-his-buckle good that I adored him. Orlando has definitely improved in his acting and seeing him do a comedic part was great. This is coming from someone who last saw him all stoic as an Elf prince. He went blow for blow with Johnny in terms of jokes and they were such a great team. Look for the part where he does an impression of Johnny. Definitely one of the funniest parts in the film. He just nailed it.
Keira Knightley. Previous films include Bend it Like Beckham, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
I half expected that I would dislike her character from the get go due to the obvious: she snags Will Turner. But she was just amazing. She didn't stand around and let all the men do the work. She got dirty, got fighty and determined. Damsel in distress? Please. The girl kicked some major pirate boot-y, and got to hang out with not just Will, but Jack Sparrow. Her scenes with Johnny were also cute, so watch out for those.
Johnny Depp. You know, originally I went in for the film rooting for Will Turner. Five minutes in, that changed. I'm sorry, I am, but Johnny completely stole the show for me. As did he for everyone too. Describing Captain (!) Jack Sparrow as a cross between "Keith Richards and Pepe Le Pew", as Johnny said, was completely accurate. Jack lurched about, brain cooked in the sun too long, hitting his marks. He wasn't just a senseless drunken pirate. No, he was a smart one. His jokes were hilarious, and the little movements, the muttering, the facial expressions... all of this combined into a lovely and funny character to watch, not to mention a memorable one. I can see myself and my friends launching into impressions of him for months to come while repeating his lines.
Plot. This was better than Cutthroat Island or Hook. It was non stop action. But not senseless "let's see how much stuff we can blow up!" stuff. You might expect that with Bruckheimer, but it was far from it. It had a gripping, thrilling, funny plot and lots of cool twists, plus nods to the actual ride without getting corny at all.I didn't remember laughing as much since I saw Austin Powers in Goldmember. However, while that movie was flat out comedy, this was suspense, action, romance... It had everything, all rolled into one. Every three minutes I was either clapping, laughing, or gasping. The plot was fluid and smooth, the special effects were pretty eye candy and not crappy at all (yay for ILM!) This film definitely appeals to all ages, whether you're the young teen out for some handsome boys, the guy wanting to see a cute girl fight, or whatever. You will LOVE this movie. Best summer movie? This is it. Bring your friends, your kids, your dentist, whatever.
And? You won't get tired of seeing it five times. 'Cause I sure as hell won't. I can't. I have to see it four more times. Gotta last longer!
Go. See. Pirates of the Caribbean. You'll love it. Thanks once again to OBM! :)

I'm one of the lucky ones. I have gotten into 2 screenings so far and I really saw more with the second screening. There's a lot of details and a lot going on in every scene.
If you've been on the Disneyland ride, you know it's played for laughs, well the movie is also played for laughs at times, but it's much faster than the ride. Every scene is fast-paced. The slowest scenes are set ups for other things to happen, but it is all woven together with such finesse and colored with such wonderful characters, you are caught up in the action.
What about Orlando, you ask? We get to see him about 10 minutes into the movie, a young handsome blacksmith's apprentice, he is wide-eyed as he waits in the Governor's mansion to deliver an especially fine piece he has made. There's some funny comedy here, too. Never saw that with the Elf. But this Will is played as an earnest 20-year-old who has been in love for the past 8 years with a girl he knows he'll never win.
Yet the tides do change.
Into town sails Captain Jack Sparrow. Talk about a great entrance. Every scene Jack is in is interesting. Even being an Orlando fan, I found myself always watching Jack. You never know what he's going to do.
Kiera Knightly's character, Elizabeth Swan, has something she took from Will the day they met, and it is that something that launches the entire plot off.
The sword fighting scenes are brilliant. The dialogue is witty - and we get to see that Jack is not the only clever person.
The pirates cave filled with treasure will remind you of the Disneyland ride, but these pirates take pleasure in killing and will let nothing stand between them and their goal.
The supernatural special effects are wonderful, but I would expect nothing less from ILM. The secondary actors are great, too. Commodore Norrington, Governor Swan, Mr. Gibb, the R2D2-C3PO like pirates who are the comical relief and even Mr. Brown, the blacksmith Will works under - all are perfect.
It is over two hours long, so don't drink a lot of liquids before hand - but just sit back and enjoy yourself. You're in for a real E Ticket Ride.

Hi, i work at a theatre so i got to see Pirates tonite instead of waiting for it to open tomorrow nite and let me tell you it was insane!! i loved it so much! johnny depp was crazy-funny, keira was a perfect choice, and, of course, Orlando was incredible...all the critics reviews were right on the money...a completely FUN movie...me and my sis were laughing all the way through it...definitely a summer hit...truth be told, from the business we've seen, its gonna be the first huge movie of the summer...all the others haven't done well at all...big disappointments...but i was talkin to my boss who was also there and he agrees that this weekend we are gonna be wicked busy and its all due to Pirates...people that see this are gonna love it the first time and theyre gonna wanna see it time after time after time...Finally, a summer blockbuster thats actually worthy of the title BLOCKBUSTER!! took its time getting here but well worth the wait!
From Jayd 07/08/03
I was lucky enough to attend a free preview of Pirates tonight in NYC. The theater was packed -- they were turning away people with free passes who arrived too late to get a seat. I'm a bit of a biased viewer, in that I've been looking forward to this movie for months (for Orlando) and I really wanted it to be a good movie (for Orlando). And yet, I often find that when my expectations are that high, it's very hard for anything to live up to them. But this movie really did. It was a fun, rollicking, hilarious, cool, adventurous film that was definitely popcorn, but the very best popcorn it could be.
I was there first and foremost for the pretty boys and the swordfights, and was very happy on both counts. The swordfights were loads of fun -- lots of twists and turns and fancy-footwork and leaps and your general derring-do, in spades. Johnny Depp was just hysterically, wonderfully fun to watch throughout. His Cap'n Jack Sparrow really makes the film in every scene; the character is a total rogue, completely unpredictable and entertaining and a lot harder to nail down than you'd think. Orlando as Will Turner is a much quieter, more conventional hero-guy in comparison -- always earnest, always in love with his girl -- but he plays out a good character arc through his relationship with tricksy, slippery Jack and his changing view of his past and himself, which acts as a nice counterpoint to the steadfast passion of his love for Elizabeth. Plus, he's Orlando! Intense smoldering and physicality aboundeth. And he really carries off that big hat ;-).
As far as the rest of the characters go, Geoffrey Rush's Captain Barbarossa is deliciously evil -- his scenes with Jack are a pleasure to watch. And Keira Knightley, in the role of Elizabeth, gets a much better deal that most "damsel in distress" roles in these big blockbusters -- she gets to play an actual character with intelligence and spirit and not too much of that "feistiness" that I personally tend to find annoying when it's the only distinguishing characteristic given to a female role. The rest of the characters of all the competing crews -- that of Jack, Barbarossa, the British Navy, etc. -- are richly filled out and become individuals to follow in their own right, rather than just masses of uniforms and costumes. I especially liked the fact that Will's rival for Elizabeth, while set-up to be the losing end of the triangle, was not reduced to just a straw man -- he actually had something of a character arc as well, and was presented as a worthy character on his own and not just someone for Will to beat.
So, great adventure, humor, special effects -- and a big fun battle at sea, and walking the plank, and being stranded on a deserted island (which led to some of the funniest Jack lines in the movie), and mmmmmm, yummy Orlando kiss at the end, like any good Disney film, but a whole lot more, since, well, you know. There's nothing not to love about this movie -- the best film of the summer, thus far.

Hey there! My name is Ann Marie and I live in Guam, U.S.A. I don't know if many of you heard of that place... but anyways..... I am such a big fan of Orlando Bloom, as many of you are. The time difference here is very different, we're like a day early. So, I watched the POTC already because it is already July 09.
I just wanted to say that it was great.... Orlando was so cute. He was much of serious character but he had a few funny scenes. Johnny Depp lightened the mood with many humorous scenes. I think many people would enjoy the film... even if Orlando isn't in it (but Thank good he is in it). The crowd I was watching with enjoyed, I don't know if was as much as my friends and I did (we were screaming everytime he was in a scene). It makes a great family and summer film. I hope many people enjoy it as much as I did. I also would like to say thanks and keep up the good work with the site. You see, here in Guam, we don't get live shows that much, meaning that the shows are recorded and then sent here making it atleast one week late (Thank Goodness the movie come here on time, atleast we have that). I think the only live shows that we have here are news (i.e. CNN, Fox News, etc.) So your site is great way to find some new things out about one of my favorite actors since the TV is always late. Anyways, I hope you watch and enjoy the movie.

Well I'd like to say that POTC was better than I could ever guess! It was so awesome, the effects, the action and suspence and even funnier that i thought it would be. Depp is amazing with his comedic timing, Keira is so talented and gorgeous and Orlando of course, was amazing with everything, swordfighting and, well see the movie! LOL ok well it was great and I cant wait to see it again. I actually felt bad when Barrbossa died, he never took a bite of the apple!! LOL At the advance screening Monday screening, they gave out tattoos of the skull, mini posters, key chain rings with a compasses that doesnt work (the movie will explain that). There were also shirts and bags and 92.3 was there with the AZ Rep. It was amazing. Oh and after the credits there is a little clip of something, it actaully scared me the most!
From Rachael 07/08/03
Hey! I just got home from the pre-screening in New York, and all the reviews I've read in the past, didn't even cut it! The movie was amazing - everything you could possibly ask for in a movie. It was witty, action-packed...everything! And, to top it all off, Orlando was in it! LOL. I just E-mailed to say how incredible it was!
Loving the site, by the way.

I just got my preview tonight. This movie is action, and pure enjoyment. Out of all the movies out there, this one is a keeper, and after seeing it you'll be counting down to owning it on DVD! It's not one to miss, and it's one you'll be spending all your spare cash seeing. Even if you aren't a fan of Orli's you will be after this. I don't want to give anything away, so I hope that works!

Hi! I just got back from the screening of Pirates and let me tell you: it was hot, lol. I met up with a fellow Bloomie I met from your site and it was a fun night all around! The film was great---I am exhausted after watching it.
From Stussia 07/08/03
It was amazing! I knew it was going to be good but Orlando and Johnny made an amazing team! Once the movie started you couldn't take your eyes off of it! It is so good that it is hard to describe! There were several fight scenes that had everyone in the theatre leaning forward in their seats and so many moments where everyone burst out laughing! The cast was all amazing and the story was really brought to life! You must see it! Orlando, I will say, is so hot and you are rooting for him the entire time. *Swoon* Two thumbs up!
From Jeterangel03 07/08/03
I had a chance to see the POTC advance screening last night. I have nothing but praise for this movie. It is the best movie of the summer. I would say year, but I think "Return of the King" will get my vote. I can't wait to go see the movie again tomorrow. Johnny Depp is amazing as Cap'n Jack Sparrow. Even with eyeliner he is drop-dead gorgeous.
Orlando Bloom is incredible as usual. He is a phenom. I can't wait to see what other movie projects he has up his sleeve. This guy is definitely going places. Just a little warning: This is the kind of movie that hurts. You know you want Johnny and Orlando but you just can't have them.
From Allie 07/08/03
My friend was lucky enough to win four tickets to a POTC advance screening. I must say the movie was better than I had imagined it. The action element of the movie is great, and the comedy element is equally wonderful, but the two combined is what really makes POTC a fantastic, stand-out movie. Johnny Depp is just hilarious, but all the other characters have there own really funny moments, even Will, who plays the serious straight-shooter of the film wonderously. I've probably never laughed so hard at a movie in a long time.
The action sequences were, I thought, extremely well done, and the sword fight between Johhny and Orlando is really something to see. The skeletons were really good too, but my favorites were the one pirate that kept losing his eyeball, and when he and his partner had to dress up a women to create a diversion. It was really a great movie, and I look forward to seeing it again.
OrlisButtercup07 07/08/03
I'll not try not to spoil anything here..... the movie is so much more funny than I thought it would be! Orli's Legolas training came in handy because he did some impressive flips and fight scenes! I'd say it was an Action Adventure/Romance/Comedy kind of deal; the special effects are impressive, I thought, and while it is two and a half hours, it is worth the butt cramps because Orli, AND Johny, look gorgeous, and the plot is amusing. I think everyone will enjoy it!
From Adelle 07/07/03
As you can imagine, I was unbaluvably excited about seeing the movie. My friends and I were so wired on the fact that we were going to see Orlando on the big screen again, it was insane. The movie starts....nice Pirates of the Craribbean title on screen, then the young Elizabeth Swann, humming the creepiest tune your ever goin to hear! Scared me to death. Anyways, its all pretty standard stuff, then its a few years later and we finaly get to meet Will Turnner. Finaly! He pulls off the sweet, polite, lower class guy so well....mind you he breaks the candle holder, so funny....I really can't describe all the great Orlando scenes, so many! He got this quirky sort of attitude, and he'll do anything to get to Elizabeth.
Of course we meet Captain Jack Sparrow, who is the funniest character in the whole movie. He confuses words and stumbles the whole time. Depp pulls off the whole sun stroke/ drunken manurisms so well. The greatest part though was Will imitating him. He looks like a zombi, but its so funny you can't help but laugh. Will is constantly showing off a rather sarcastic side, (reminding me of the famous line in LOTR "would you like me to describe it to you, or shall I find you a box?" ya it's kinda like that.)
I'm acctualynot REALLY REALLY jealous of Keira Knightly though. lol. I expected them to have a lot more touchy feely scenes together, but it was pretty civilised, only kisses him in the clip in the perview that we have all seen. It's rather nice to see his attention directed to a lady rather than a dwarf, but that's a different story.
Throught the movie, Orlando does a fantastic job at his character. Though some times a little over shadowed by Depp, they both compliment each other magnificantly on-screen. The only complaint I would have is the skeletons, little sketchy in some places, but only if you're looking for it. The rumor about a clip at the end of the credits is true. It's only a few seconds, no Orlando, but it pretty much sets itself up for a sequel. Here's hopin' matey!
From Marcy 07/07/03
I was able to see an advanced screening of POTC in NYC Monday night. Let me just start with : I loooooved it! It was everything I was hoping and more! It had action, adventure, excitement, romance and lots of humor.
If I didn;t love Orlando enough already, I love him even more after seeing Pirates. He was perfect and his character was extremely charming.
Johnny Depp was amazing. I couldnt believe it was him sometimes, he was amazingly hilarious. Keira Knightley also did a great job. Not only was she incredibly beautiful but she was strong and witty. I loved how her character, Elizabeth and Orlando's character, Will, loved eachother so much that they were both willing to risk their lives above and beyond. Their devotion was so big and obvious that characters in the movie even mocked it sometimes :-)
The audience at the theatre seemed to really enjoy the movie as well and clapped and cheered.
Everyone has to go see this movie so we can have a sequel! Trust me, we want a sequel! Everyone run to see it now :)

I frequently visit your site for news and thought you might like an early review of POTC from other than a media source. I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the premiere screening tonight in Phoenix. They usually give out more passes than there are seats figuring that people won't show up. Tonight they had to offer tickets to another screening to the 200 or so overflow people who didn't make it in. Fortunately my son and I were among those who did get to see it.
First of all I had never seen Johnny Depp in a movie before and was delightfully impressed at his outstanding performance. He was a touch campy (but not overdone) as well as witty and very funny. He had some great one liners as well as some comic moves (he enters the film as his small boat is sinking and steps onto the pier from the top of the mast just as it's going down completely....the master at the pier says that it costs a shilling to park his boat and he must give his name...they both look behind Depp at the now out of sight boat and Depp says "Here's three shillings to park the boat and forget the name." It works...both to get him by the master and for laughs!)
The audience I saw the film with laughed in all the right places and cheered in all the right places as well--the audience reactions, in general, were very favorable! Will Turner makes a very early entrance in the film (well actually the first time we see him, it's a much younger version and a different actor), but Orlando's entrance is almost immediate (10 minutes in?) as he comes to see the Governor and present a sword that he's made for the new Commodore...we see him watch Elizabeth coming down the stairs and it is immediately clear that he is gobsmacked! Very fun stuff and Orlando is charming and convincing in his role. I had only seen Orlando in Wilde, Blackhawk Down and LOTR (not being a place to have seen Ned Kelly or any of the television he's done)...it was interesting to see him engage this very different character and do it so convincingly that you were never once tempted to compare Will Turner to Legolas. Impressive that he can leave that behind so well (some actors would not be so skilled I think). What I mean is that some actors recreate the same role over and over and over again in each movie they do...Orlando is clearly not going to be one of those actors.
The sword fighting scenes are spellbinding and some neat tricks are in there (either Orlando is a gymnast on the side or has a very skilled stunt double to do the fancy flips etc.). In fact it would be interesting to know exactly how much of that stuff the actors didn't do (Depp as well). Since their faces are showing for most of it, I have to think doubles were used sparingly.
Keira Knightly was also fabulous...I had seen her the other night on Jay Leno and was impressed with how different she was in the film (again, some actors/actresses get by playing themselves because they can't act...clearly this young lady isn't in that category). She actually had more scenes with Depp and Rush than with Orlando but the few they had together were excellent...the viewer certainly could believe they were in love. I was happy to see that Elizabeth was not your textbook damsel in distress...at one point she goes rushing in in a rowboat to rescue Will...all by herself...and does a good job of it! Outstanding!
In short, it was exciting to be among the first to see this great film...the special effects were amazing, the acting was superb, and it was hilarious in more places than I could count...I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed!!!! :-)

Orli was such a sweet guy to all his fans & I admire the way he was kind enough to give me & many of his devoted fans...his Autograph, even though the security was telling him to go back inside the cinema many times.
And what made it even more special, was the way that after waiting outside for Orli to emerge once it was finished, Orli came out & got into a car directly in front of us & opened his window so that he could talk to us all for a few moments! Among other things he said to us all, he said "I hope you enjoy the film!" & I am sure I will A LOT!...once it's released here in the UK soon.
He was so cute & showed great respect to everyone & I can see now why so many people fall for his charm!

Okay Guys I was there and I met up with Tasha earlier post She has it about right so I'm not gonna bore you with it all again Though Tasha you did get one bit wrong Honey He did kiss me yeah but I got A full Belter On the Mouth See take him something nice like I did And See what I got.
Anyway Im here to report on what happened after the movie finished contrary to other reports I can tell you that Orlando did Stay for the entire movie but was the first out cause he had his mum and Gran with him. He came out around 10.25 and still looked HOT as soon as I saw him I called his name he saw me and must have remembered the pictures I gave him earlier on he then started to come over all the girls were screaming his name but still he came over to me and my friends. He was just about to sign another print that i was holding out when his body guard said no he had to go, He looked really upset and said he was really sorry but he did have to go then he got into the car that was parked right in front of us slid over to our side opened the window and carried on talking to us. I was gobsmacked he never looked at or spoke to another person from leaving the cinema to being driven off but me and my friends. And the best thing was he did remember me and the gifts I had given him and wanted to say thank you again I said he was more than welcome and if he had the time to read the letter I had enclosed with the Prints he promised he would then blew me a kiss and waved before his car started to move off the last thing he heard was My friend Hayley telling Orlando to give Dominic her love he gave her the thumbs up and blew another kiss then he was gone . WHAT A GREAT NIGHT

Well I entered every competition possible to try and win tickets to the premiere and unfortunately I didn't win any - I am glad to see that people do actually win them! Anyways, I think I got to Leicester Square at about 12:30 ( with my mate Steph who said that she really wanted to see Orlando even though she wasn't a major fan or anything ) and met up with a group of people who had saved excellent spots right in front of the Odeon entrance. Unfortunately, it didn't really matter that they had done that because the barriers hadn't been put up yet! Therefore once they had decided to put them up we lost our spot and went though about 1 - 2 hours of pushing and shoving and hearing lots of "Move to the left" and "Keep moving, behind the telephone box".
Well anyway, suddenly one of the security guards or whatever they were suddenly said taht we could go to the barriers! Everyone ran, and people must have got squashed because it was a riot! Lucky I followed smaug (one of the people from the group) and we ran to the front of the barrier right in front of the Odeon entrance, again. Tasha squeezed in too at the front.
Then we did lots of waiting for the stars to arrive! Kiera arrived but didn't sign hardly anything. Then Orlando came and was the best! He tried to sign everyones and he was so sweet! I can't wait to get my pics developed! It was an awesome day - unfortunately I didn't get a poster board though!
I really wanna see the movie now!
From Laura 07/18/03
I actually entered a competition directly at the Odeon Leicester Square by phoning up, it was probably the competition I was least likely to win as they were only giving away one pair of tickets i think, but somehow I WON! I took my friend Ryan and we hopped on the train up to London, got there around lunchtime, it was really awesome.
The balcony all done up with palm trees and cannons, and big PotC banners all over the front. We stood outside for a couple hours hoping to get Orli's autograph, but as it got nearer to 7.30 and he still didn't show we decided we had to go it- didn't want to miss any of the show! There was no red carpet (probably ran out after using it for the longest red carpet ever at the World Premiere) and alas the posterboards they put up along the barriers were all nabbed by the time we came out so we couldn't get hold of 'em but never mind.
We managed to lurk outside for a bit and got Keira's autograph and Duncan from Blue's, but the Odeon ushers were adamant that we went in and we tried sneaking out about 5 times but were thwarted at every turn by the burly bouncers! Orli finally arrived but we couldn't get out to see him, those ushers were rather mean huh! We were upstairs, seperated from the VIP's by some netting and a cardboard wall, we saw Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer in the VIP area, and Keira joined them afterwards before going back downstairs to pose with Orli when he arrived. Bless him, we were running late but he went out twice more after he'd been called in, to sign even more autographs so no-one was disappointed!
In our seats were bottled water, a bag of popcorn and a booklet with quotes for each character, picutres and a plot overview, and then without further adieu, after the cast, producer and director had got onstage to introduce the movie, it started. The VIP's were all sitting a few rows in front of us and we saw Orli sit down. Ryan said he saw a man that looked very like Orli accompanied by an usher move a woman at the end of our row so that he could sit there, whether that was Mr Bloom or not we don't know, i didn't notice because I was too engrossed in the movie.
It was thrilling, enough swashbuckling swordfights, delicious men, witty one liners and great effects to push it way above the ordinary and into the amazing! Johnny was undoubtably the star, stealing every scene he was in and loving every minute as the eccentric, swaggering, flamboyant Cap'n Jack Sparrow, Orlando was in his element, really enjoying the swordfights and managing to hold his own against Johnny quite damn well. Keira kicked ass, pity the corset line had been on the adverts so much, same with Orli's goodbye line, because they were about all that didn't get the laughs. The jokes flew thick and fast but i think the audience was quick enough to catch 'em all. Geoffery Rush was postively evil as Barbossa and he and Johnny played off each other really well. I didn't think the movie overran i was begging for more by the end of it.
At the end we went down the back stairway and snuck into the VIP area, and brushed past Jerry and Gore, but the usher said Orli had long gone, we think he left halfway through the movie because someone left and he was no-where to be seen at the end! A few people were still waiting at the end, probably still hoping for more Orlando, but they were obviously disappointed. Even though Johnny wasn't there and we couldn't really get near to Orli it was still an absolutely amazing night and a dream come true!
I really don't know if i'll be able to wait until August the 8th to see Pirates of the Caribbean again, definitely the best movie of the summer, I can say that safely even though its not even halfway through summer yet, nothing can surpass this excellent movie!
From Kim 07/15/03
I entered a competition on the MTV website to win tickets to the premiere... I didn't think I'd win!!! When I got the phone call I was soooo happy! So me and my friend went down to London on the train, we got to Leicester Sq about 4 o'clock. There were tons of people there already, loads of tourists kept asking me what was going on, lol! So we waited until half 5, when we could collect the tickets from the cinema. By this point I was way too excited for my own good! I kept thinking I would throw up! The doors to the Odeon opened at 6.45 so we stood at the barriers hoping Orli would arrive early.
We saw Keira arrive, and loads of Z-list celebs. We had to be seated in the Odeon by 7.30 so we stood outside 'til the very last minute and Orli still hadn't arrived, so we had no choice but to go in. Our seats were quite good- 3 or 4 rows from the front, and we got a free bag of popcorn and a drink. As soon as we sat down we saw on the screen (they had a live feed from outside) that Orlando had arrived! He looked soooo cute, signing everyone's autographs. He is the nicest guy ever! So in the cinema everyone started taking pictures of the screen! (I hope they come out ok!)
They showed us some behind the scenes stuff while we were waiting, then the stars walked in! There was Orlando, keira, gore, jerry, jack davenport and makenzie crook. They came up on stage (we orli came up I was screaming so loud!) Then they went off stage and I have no idea where they went after that. Anyway the film began, and it was so good. Johnny was hilarious! I really needed the loo but I didn't wanna miss anything! So I held it, lol. We got out of the cinema at about 10.45. I fell in love with Orli all over again that night. I love the guy! Shame I didn't get closer to him though. But it was the coolest night out ever!

I checked that my neighbour couldn’t get me a ticket and left my house at about 10am for the train station. It was about an hour journey and my first time on my own on the train (didn’t get lost YAY). When I got to Leicester Square I couldn’t see anyone outside the Odeon so I walked about for a while (got The Face and Another Total Film). When I came back from wandering the shops I walked past a small group of people, one of them, I noticed had a ‘Wee Scarvie’ pinned to her top. I stopped, pulled out my wallet and showed her my wee scarvie and she screamed gave me a hug and started laughing. These were the people I stayed with the whole day, more members of the group came including Smaug who I had planned to meet there from F4F. It was a very hot day and we waited around for a long time in the sun. Two of the women (one of them with a wee scarvie) had had an artist commissioned to do 2 paintings for them (one of Legolas and one of Will Turner) and they had brought the only copies with to give to Orli as a gift (the drawings were sooo gorgeous and pretty expensive too) so that was one mission to get these to Orli.
Later on in the day after A LOT of pushing, shoving and shouting we were finally let behind the barriers which had just been set up (and very unfairly too, it didn’t matter how long you had been there it was just a race to get to the front and im surprised that nobody got hurt!). I didn’t get to the front and I had lost most of the group but Smaug came over and said she was at the front so I went over with her and somehow managed to squeeze my way into the front. I was next to the ‘Orli, you float my boat’ banner which you can see in some pictures (I was just to the left of it). After a bit of waiting, screaming for the man in the hotdog suit (the jolly hotdog, dressed in pirates gear as well as being in a hotdog suit), screaming for the numerous camera crews the people started arriving. T4 (a show on channel 4) was doing all interviews with every celeb and we were right near there (in front of the Odeon entrance) so all of them had to walk past us. We were getting (well I was anyway) a bit worried that Orli wouldn’t come over to any of us cos we were near the end and none of the celebs were really paying much notice of us. Then we heard that Gore and Jerry had arrived but they would all be a long way away from us for a while.
It was then announced that Kiera had arrived and that we ‘might not recognize her because she has such dark hair’ (yea right, we are Uber fans, course we’ll recognize her!). well anyway, there were so many people going into the cinema that it was hard to look out for the stars. Oh I forgot to mention Mckenzie Crook turned up before them (wearing a pirate bandana but not really signing autographs). I was looking around and then noticed that the T4 crew were interviewing Gore, then I looked some more and noticed the Jerry was standing right infront of us! So I called him over and quite a few people where I was got autographs (I'm not sure if I was the only one that knew what Gore and Jerry looked like or it was just nobody else, and that was quite a lot of people noticed them). Kiera came past us and was interviewed by T4, we called her and called her but she seemed a bit more interested in the press people than us and didn’t come over or sign anything for anyone (well, near my area at least).
When she was finishing with the press the whole place suddenly erupted with screaming down the other end of the street and then the woman announcing the arrivals on the balcony said that Orli must be here (after constantly teasing us about him) (Lauren just told me that his mum and grandma were there, she went into the premiere and saw them but I didn’t) It took a long time for Orli to get closer to us as he was signing autographs as quick as he could for as many people as he didn’t want people to go without. Then we see him walking near us (constant OMGs from me) He was wearing a blackish coat done up which I thought was gorgeous, the trousers with the white stripe down the side and nike trainers (with no socks we noticed) he stopped signing autographs and quickly walked past lots of people to get to the T4 team which he had been told to do and did a really really quick interview with them, we thought he was gonna go in to the cinema after this like the others but to our surprise (and a very good one at that) he started signing autographs from the bottom of the line with lightening speed but still looking up and greeting people asking how they were. Then he got to the person next to me (a member of our little group) and it just popped out my mouth ‘Orli, can I have a Hug?’, he looked up at me smiled then gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek (when he did this all the previous girls screamed Heee.. Heeee, sorry, evil lol) and signed my poster.
We then had to make sure the two women gave him the drawings. They passed them over to him and he was going to sign them but we were all shouting to him, ‘They are for you!’ He was saying to the woman, ‘No, I can’t take this, I cant accept it, it’s so good, I’ll sign them and give them back.’ After a while he was finally convinced to accept them and leaned over the barrier to talk to the woman and kiss her on the cheek. I was screaming and laughing that ‘Orli Just kissed me on the cheek and hugged me’ and shouting it to Jock (or Pippin as we nicknamed him, He was the security guard that we had been having a joke with for a few hours).
Orli went over to do some photos (after signing quite a few more autographs) for the press with Kiera and then gave her a kiss and they hugged and went inside where we could see them doing more photos. Loads of people were still screaming for him that hadn’t seen him yet so again to my surprise he ran back out to them and started signing more stuff! He was running from one side to another in order to get as many done as possible (it was sooo sweet of him as the others didn’t and he didn’t have to) but the woman that was on the balcony(sorry I cant remember her name, It might have been Jenny Bond but I know her face, she's a presenter) but she was saying that she hadn’t seen this much demand for someone in a very long time and that this was the longest she thought anyone had ever stayed out signing thing for.
So after a while of signing things (Kiera still didn’t) he went in and the whole cast and crew that were there went up to the balcony and everyone was screaming and he was smiling and waving and winking, laughing and pointing. He then did a thumbs up to all the people behind the press that couldn’t get anywhere near the carpet or the stars and blew them a kiss and with that, they all went inside and everyone took the big cardboard posters from the barriers (with the help of the police lol) I didn’t get one. I was perfectly content with what I had (Hug, kiss and autograph).
I said goodbye to Smaug and went home with only one regret, that I didn’t manage to get a pic of me and orli. I got home at about 9 – 9:30pm tired, hungry, dehydrated and aching but it was definitely worth it. I even got my neighbors booklet which was given out to the guests this morning. I have now even more respect to Orli than before, he looks even better in person than I could of ever imagined. I hope he never changes in his attitude towards anything, he was basically a perfect gentleman and a perfect guy and I am so impressed with the way he treats his fans.
I will send in some pics when I get them developed. Here are a few pictures of the booklet that my neighbour gave me and some of the Odeon (courtesy of Lauren)

Keira looked gorge as did Orli, i got some photos of him plus his autograph as well as anne hathaways and Jerry's!! Was incredible! Orlando is def the nicest star ever he spents ages going round trying to sign autographs for everyone which was really sweet as no one else really bothered and he only went in when he was basically forced to! utter wonderful man!!
Pirates of the Caribbean : The World Premiere, Los Angeles

Yes! Can you believe it? I actually went to the "Pirates of the Caribean" movie premiere at Disneyland!! I'm still a bit in shock since I wasn't able to go to "The Two Towers" premiere because of another engagement.
When I found out I was going, it was during the time everyone was saying Orli wasn't going to be there. I was disapointed, but still, I was going! :) The day finally came and I had heard rumors that Orlando was now actually going to attend. I didn't know if this was true or not until when I got at Disneyland, and the "tip sheets" Disney was handing out for the press said "Orlando Bloom" was going to be attending. Ahhh! My mom and I got so excited.
Now, let me get to the Orlando parts cause I am probably boring you with everything else. At the very end of the walk-ins (on the red carpet) Orlando and Johnny were one of the last celebrities to get inside for the movie. They were basically pushing and shoving Orlando to get inside of "Frontierland" for the movie. They were having a hard time because, being the sweetheart that Orlando is, he tried to sign for everyone. I knew that I just had to try to either talk to him, shake his hand, take a photo with him...SOMETHING!!! So I stood waiting around until he came down to where I was standing. The problem was, even me being on the red carpet, I couldn't really get to the man! Isn't that sad? There was at least 10-15 assistants/security standing around him as he walked down the rest of the carpet. I knew I had to get his attention somehow. So when he was about 5 feet away from me, I politely called out his name. His face was turned to the opposite direction of me, but to my surprise, when I called him, he immediately turned in my direction and stopped directly on me. We made beautiful eye contact and he gave me this HUGE adorable sexy smile. He was about to come over to me when...*POOF*, our eye contact broke when the stupid people around him kept calling his name and telling him to continue down the carpet. I didn't want to seem like a freak and chase him down the red carpet (plus I wanted to see Johnny Depp too). Even if I would've attempted to run after him (lol), it would have been impossible with all those people. So I watched Orlando do a brief radio interview and then the people wisked him away once again. Girls -- the man is GORGEOUS!!! He is SO SEXY!!!! I'm in love with him even more now since I've now seen for myself how sexy and sweet he is in person! My mom was lucky enough to get a couple of photos of him including a backside photo while he was signing for some fans behind the rail. She got the picture as one of the people who was walking around him left him alone for a brief moment. It's great, you can clearly see his ass. I absolutely love that photo she took. *YUMMY* I'm keeping those photos of Orlando for myself. *wink*
Johnny just walked by me, but I don't remember even calling out his name. I think I was too star struck with him or something since I've loved him since "Edward Sissorhands" and my mom's loved him since "Nightmare on Elm Street". lol. They basically wisked him away too. He did sign for a couple people though. Earlier I did meet and talk with Keira Knightley ("Elizabeth"), Jack Davenport ("Norrington") and Klaus Badelt (he did the music for the movie). They all signed my "Pirates" poster and are really nice. :c)
The way Disney set it up was awesome!!! "Pirates of the Caribean" posters were everywhere. The movie screen was set up on Tom Sawyer's Island. We were told that the 2 giant screens were flown in earlier that morning and put together to make 1 huge screen. We went to our seats. We sat in the yellowy/orange section (you had assigned seats on the pass). There were drinks, snacks and they even had blankets for you just in case you got cold. While we were watching the film, David Hasselhoff walked by us to go to the bathroom. We saw Constance Marie walk by us to leave and so did John Cryer ("Duckie" from "Pretty in Pink") before the film was even over. The movie is AWESOME!!! The special effects, the dialogue, the storyline, the music...*cough*the guys*cough*. Orlando and Johnny were great together. The scenes between Keira and Orlando...whoa. There are points where he gently touches her face, etc. and it seriously makes you want to be Keira in those specific scenes. And that kissing scene!?!? God, it makes it even worse. lol, I know he was just acting...but still. When the movie ended, they showed some of the credits but then cut them off to show this awesome fireworks show while we were all listening to the "Pirates" movie soundtrack. It was incredible!
After the fireworks, we started looking for Orlando and Johnny. We didn't have any luck at all with finding them around the area we were in, so we gave up. We went and rode a couple of rides since they had "Indiana Jones" running along with "Haunted Mansion", "Splash Mountain", "Winnie the Pooh", "Big Thunder" and of course, "Pirates of the Caribean". It was great because it was only a 1 minute wait for every ride. It wasn't until about 30 minutes later we found out from these 2 people, that Orli and Johnny were by their seats taking photos with people and talking. Just my luck, when we went by, they weren't there anymore. I was so mad. Why hadn't we thought of looking over there!? I was kicking myself. Sure we saw Daryl Hannah and Eric Idle come out of "Haunted Mansion". We walked by Cuba Gooding Jr., Travis from Blink 182 and ALOT of other celebs...but we just didn't happen to bump into Orli did we!? Ugh!! We went to ride "Pirates" but it turned out, they had closed it. We figured it was closed for the cast of "Pirates" since we saw the boats running through the window. We found out Johnny was having a private party which is where, most likely, Orlando was at. We left around 1:15 am when it started dying down. When we exited, they gaves us "Pirates" caps and the new "Pirates" XBOX game. We also got to keep our blankets.
All and all the premiere was great. I admit I was dissapointed that I didn't get to see Orli after the movie. --Sigh-- So even though I wasn't able to actually have a conversation with Mr. Bloom, however, he now knows I exist since we made eye contact and he smiled at me. I'm just happy I live in Los Angeles and I know he'll be back and I'll be waiting!! Until my next encounter with Orlando...see you later!!

Hello,
I also watched the red carpet arrivals at the POTC Premiere. But by time Orlando got down to our area (in front of the castle), he was being rushed down the carpet. But he did grab my hand!! :-) I can't believe I was that close to Orlando! Johnny was also rushed by us, but he was pushed down the carpet by Disney. But he looked back at us with a sorry face. I won't get my pictures back till the middle of the week, so if I have some good ones, i'll be sure to send them your way. :-)

Hi, I just wanted to share my impressions of Orlando at last night's premiere at Disneyland.
I got to Disneyland early in the day (7:30 a.m.) and there were people already camping out on the curb. I wanted to enjoy the park and see what else had been done in preparation for the premiere so didn't pick sit along the red carpet until about 4 p.m. The arrivals were to start at 6:30, but I was far down the red carpet, about a quarter of the way around the traffic circle at the end of Main Street.
I could see Orlando coming along, shaking hands with his fans, and doing autographs. He looked so much more handsome in person than I expected; so many times people look better in films. He did as many autographs as he had time. (I got one, hurrah!) His hair was long and curly, as you can see in the pictures. He seemed to genuinely enjoy greeting his fans, but what I was most impressed with was the following:
It was getting late and the premiere was supposed to start at 9. Right after Orlando passed me, the security people wisked him off on a short cut to the entrance to where the screening was going to be held. When he realized that he was not going to be seen by the fans waiting in the other half of the traffic circle, many of whom had been waiting most of the day, he came back out and walked all the way around, continuing to greet his fans. It was obvious that he cared about them; and his behavior was a fine tribute to him.

About an hour after the red carpet arrivals started, loud screams broke out at the beginning of the red carpet..and when I looked up, I saw Johnny Depp making his way through interviews. And not far behind him was Orlando Bloom himself. At this point I was far away from him, and I swear he still looked damn gorgeous. Magazines photos and other pictures do not even do that boy justice. He is a perfect specimen of male, I swear.
Where I was standing, Johnny seemed more interested in getting through the interviews than interacting with fans, so I could only get a few far away pictures of him. Orlando, however, was very playful and he bounced back between the interviews and fans. One time he finished an interview and turned right around and charged at fans chanting his name. He was very energetic and all smiles and seemed to be genuinely having a blast. It was very adorable. And I was impressed about how into his fans he was..very kind and very sweet.
I was not able to get an autograph because every time I had the chance he was dragged back to one interview or another. But I did get a lot of pictures, one of the somewhat better ones, I will post the link to. Anyways I promise he is a million times better looking in person than any picture. And his soft accent is to die for!! Oh and at one point I was reminded of the embrace he and Elijah shared at that one LOTR premiere, because he shared a similar one with some guy I didn't recognize. I suppose some even better news might be that as far as I could tell (and I WAS looking) Kate B was nowhere in sight!

Okay, I seriously was thisclose to crying when my friend told me this!! It's some-what lengthy (sorry about that) but I thought it would be cool to share with you: (WARNING: May cause tears because you're eaither A) feeling sorry for me or B) Laughing so hard and saying "Now that is too funny.") Note, I was doing it b/c of both....
I'm a huge DIE HARD LotR, PotC, and Orli fan (which teenage girl isn't? LoL) And I've been counting down since the begining of April for PotC. Well, I live about 20-30 minutes away from Disneyland where the premiere was. And bunch of people from my dance studio and I were going to go today just to see what everything was going to look like when they set up for the premiere, but since the park was "closing" at 6:00, we thought it would be major crowded and be pointless to go, so we didn't.
Today at 3:00 my friend Kris (from dance) calls me and is all, "Guess what? I'm at Disneyland right now because my brother had to do some stuff and wanted me and my younger brother out of the way." Apparently, there weren't a lot of people at Disneyland right then and the only part of the park that was closing at 6:00 was Critter Country and New Orleans Square and you were able to see the actors arrive all down Main Street.
So I'm ready to bust my butt out the door and meet him there when my Cousin's husband calls and says that she's in the hospital having her baby! So my Mom and I run down there and stay there for awhile and when I come home Kris has called my phone like 4 times. 1st time: "Hey Jessie, it's Kris. I'm right on the edge of the red carpet and watching for famous people. No one worth mentioning so far, except Richard Gere. Call you when some action happens." 10 minutes later with a hord of screaming girls next to him: "Hey Jess, it's Kris. Johnny Depp just walked by with a lot of body guards. Haven't seen Orlando yet, but I'm watching for him." I don't think even 5 minutes later, I think with a crying girl in front of him: "Jess, I just saw Orlando. The girl in front of me got an autograph and I tried to get one for you but he had to do interviews. But I got some really cool pins for you!!" (yeah, Kris, how KIND of you. Haha) Then around 15 minutes later he calls and was all: "Yeah, a lot of people left after they saw Orlando so it wasn't that crowded. But Orlando and Johnny were walking around and greeting people and I met Jonny Depp and shook his hand. He's really short and smelt like smoke. But then I saw all these crying screaming girls who just shook Orlando's hand. Sorry you couldn't be here. Congrats to your cousin for the baby!"
Oh. My. Lord. I almost cried. The funny thing though is that he wasn't THAT excited for PotC, yet he got to go to the premiere and meet Johnny Depp. Now he's going to the midnight showing with me (how ironic) if we can find one. I asked him if he got any pictures. He forgot his camera!!! But, my cousin has a beautiful, healthy baby girl, I have some kick butt PotC pins with Orlando on them, and the friend I envy forgot his camera. What could be better?!?! LoL Life is good. Keep up the Brilliant work!!! :-D
