    Pirates left high and dry
    Feburary 5, 2003

It looks like it's far from plain sailing for the cast of new Disney swashbuckler Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Not only did a large portion of a set go up in flames last year but now some of the superstar names attached to the project are having to fend for themselves in a deserted tropical hotel.

The cast and crew are currently shooting in the Caribbean but, according to a source close to the production, the sleazy ol' landlubber of a hotel manager has done a runner and left them high and dry.

Apparently, Disney paid around $60,000 to keep a bankrupt hotel afloat so they could use it as a base in the area. The manager though has scarpered with the cash leaving actors such as Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush to look after themselves.

It's understood that Disney execs have managed to rehire many of the staff who were laid off when the hotel went belly up but that hasn't prevented some of the stars from having to pitch and help with the day-to-day chores such as cooking dinner for up to 25 fellow diners.

The film is due to reach our shores on August 25th.
