A £5 million ITV drama about Colditz Castle, scene of 300 Allied escape attempts in the Second World War, is causing dismay among survivors because the script shows Nazi camp commanders in an honourable light. A cast still has to be picked for the drama, with speculation that Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom and Keeley Hawes have been approached.

Peter Jackson to direct King Kong

Five-time Academy Award nominee Peter Jackson will direct "King Kong" for Universal Pictures, it was announced today by Stacey Snider, Chairman, Universal Pictures. Jackson will begin work on the film immediately following the release of "The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King," the third and final installment of his blockbuster trilogy based upon the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Jackson will write the screenplay with his partner Fran Walsh and "The Lord Of The Rings" co-writer Philippa Boyens. Jackson and Walsh will produce the film under their WingNut Films banner. Universal Pictures will release "King Kong" worldwide in 2005.

Tourism executives and British media have been captivated by the Location Guide to the Lord of the Rings. Ian Brodie, curator of the Wanaka Warbirds Museum, wrote the earthly guide to locations featured in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of the Tolkien trilogy. The book has sold 75,000 copies since November and has been at the top of the New Zealand bestseller chart for 16 consecutive weeks. Two weeks ago Brodie was flown to Germany for the weekend for a VIP dinner with Tourism New Zealand.
