Possible role for Orlando?
posted by Stacie
Hollywood is bracing for a much more exciting manhunt. Industry insiders are buzzing about who will land the sought-after role of John Wilkes Booth, the dashing but deranged actor/assassin, in a new Disney film called "Manhunt." You need to cast an actor who has Booth's spirit." Will it be dark-eyed Johnny Depp, now burning up the screen in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl"? How about his younger "Pirates" co-star Orlando Bloom, who bears a strong resemblance to the 19th-century thespian and made audiences swoon with his elfin archer Legolas in the "Lord of the Rings"
films?

Troy shooting starts today in Los Cabos
posted by Jas
Filming of Troy starts today in Los Cabos, South of Baja. More than a thousand Mexican extras will be used for the battle scene which will be shot in Dunas. More sets have been built on the desert land of San Lucas. I don't speak Spanish, this is all I can make out from an online translator, sorry for any mistake :-) Update: Thanks to Monica, here's the correct translation: The movie stars American Brad Pitt & is directed by German director Wolfgang Petersen. The filming will last ten weeks & costs about 25 million dollars. More than a thousand Mexican extras have been hired for the war scenes. Three sets have been created on las Dunas for the movie: The temple of Apollo, the gates of Troy, & the boats for the water scenes. El Faro Viejo has been closed off due to the movie. Then it just talks about the script and who's in it.

LOTR make up on CBBC
posted by Irene
Irene of the Johnny Depp Zone informed us that the BBC tv programme ‘Call The Shots’ will have a piece on the LOTR make-up artist on next week’s show. As a taster, they showed Legolas having the make-up brush applied to his chiselled cheekbones. The show will air at 5pm on BBC1 on Friday 25 July. They had a Brad Pitt interview on today’s show, as part of a feature on ‘Sinbad’, so it might be worth keeping your eye on the show for POTC coverage.
Elijah showed support for his fellowship friends

Just last week, head Hobbit Elijah Wood rushed out on opening night to catch a screening of Orlando Bloom's flick Pirates of the Caribbean. The Grove Theaters, at 3rd Street and Fairfax. Accompanied by a posse of arty actor types, E.W. was looking adorable, with his hair buzz-cut and wearing a light gray tee and denims. And while he and his band of boys were all smiles and applause--especially for the trailer featuring pal Viggo Mortensen's upcoming project, Hidalgo--they weren't quite feeling the love for Tom Cruise's sword-wielding venture, The Last Samurai.

POTC article in People magazine
posted by Jen
Jen wrote in to say that there's a POTC article in the July issue of People magazine (JFK Jr. on the cover). The article talks mostly about Depp, and it says a lot about how they thought the movie was overlong and there were too many plot twists. They said very little about Orlando or Keira Knightly, and they said nothing about Geoffry Rush, apart from listing him as one of the main characters. It included a pic. of Orlando Bloom and Johnney Depp; Depp's looking in a telescope, and Orlando's standing behind him.
