Orlando Bloom Interview
posted by Marie, 12/31/03, from Action-Adventure Movies
Orlando Bloom may have been the biggest discovery in the Lord of the Rings films. With nothing but a few TV parts and a small role in a film called Wilde to his credit, Bloom portrayed the elf Legolas in the trilogy. Suddenly, he was picked out to costar in films like Black Hawk Down and Pirates of the Caribbean. Now, with Lord of the Rings ending, Bloom has a few more glorious moments as Legolas, including a big battle atop a giant elephant, plus a big slate of future projects to look forward to, including Troy, Kingdom of Heaven and a sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Swords make the cut in Hollywood
posted by Marie, 12/31/03, from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Interesting text about swords in movies including LOTR movies, Troy, Pirates of the Caribbean... "The sword is more than an instrument of death. It's a graphic symbol of power that's often not merely used as a weapon, but is also gazed at with amazement by one and all. But the sword conveys more than raw power. 'In a society that is so chaotic and violent, the sword is about honor and virtue,' says Mark Masters, owner of the Fencing Academy of Philadelphia in Powelton, Pa. 'It's a powerful cultural symbol.' Masters was impressed by the quality of the fighting in Samurai and declared the fencing scenes in Pirate, between Depp and Orlando Bloom, exceptional."
