Australia's most popular film of the moment is Ned Kelly, which sold $2.6 million worth of tickets on its opening weekend and may total $10 million by the end of an eight-week run. That's hardly the monster hit that should have followed from the publicity and the presence of Orlando Bloom, Rachel Griffiths, Heath Ledger and Naomi Watts. What went wrong? Not entirely by coincidence, a new DVD release of the old Ned Kelly, with Jagger in the title role, popped into our video stores last weekend. It shows what's missing from the new version - the political dimension.

They did a segment on POTC today on Access Hollywood. Most of the footage is the same thing in the sneak preview trailer, but there is a little behind the scenes stuff with Johnny Depp. The segment focuses mostly on him, no interview with Orlando. This is not the same thing that aired on Access before. Thanks, India.

While Gregor Jordan's NED KELLY has Ledgered up to number one spot (bringing in an average of $7427 per screen), Neil Jordan's TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG seems to have been canned completely. Well, rumours of another production are floating around... THE SASH is currently in pre-production, and will begin shooting at the end of the year. New interview with Dominic Monaghan

After a debut in the mid-1990s TV series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, it took a small role - literally - in three minor films from New Zealand (something about Lords and Rings) before most people recognised 26-year-old Dominic Monaghan as the hobbit Merry Brandybuck. He's currently spokesman for Future Forests and, like the Baftas and Brits, is totally CarbonNeutral. When asked if he still keep in touch with the Fellowship, Dom said: "Sure. We made a pact and we all got this tattoo, and promised to stay in touch, which we do. I saw Ian McKellen a few weeks ago and Billy Boyd I see all the time. Elijah [Wood] and Viggo [Mortensen] live in LA, Orlando [Bloom] is in and out of LA as well, so we all keep in touch. We see each other at least two or three times a year for work anyway."

Directors of the blockbuster sci-fi franchises soon hitting theaters - "The Matrix," "Star Wars," "The Lord of the Rings" and "X-Men" - are coming to the rescue of confused fans with animated shorts and special-edition DVDs. "The Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson always intended to release two versions of his movies - the theatrical cut and an extended version with an extra 30 minutes. A DVD of "The Two Towers" is currently in the works - just in time for a refresher course before "The Return of the Kings" is released next year. "The DVD is your only chance to find out about how Merry and Pippin got their daggers, or what lemba's bread is," said Jackson on the movie's Web site.

Bonnie got a reply from Famous Players, a movie chain in Canada regarding Ned Kelly and it says: At this point in time Ned Kelly is scheduled to be released in the Fall of this year. As to the specific North American release date, it has not been announced yet but keep checking your local listings for any updates.
