I think Disney is going to test the theory about whether bad marketing can kill a movie. We got a look at the first 'teaser trailer' for Pirates of the Caribbean, the trailer is due to hit theaters in December.
The consensus: nobody could think of a worse trailer that they have ever seen. Gaudy ... unpleasent ... annoying ... stupid ... didn't capture the movie at all ... Bad graphics and believe it or not, they even used obviously stock footage
Even the people who made it were embarrassed. (Their excuse: they were rushed ... but the trailer itself says version #17 ... I'd hate to think what the earlier versions looked like.)
We were shown it with the theory that maybe we could make some suggestions ... but it was so bad, start to finish, all you could say is, "junk it."
See what you think; I believe it will be on the front of the next Lord of the Rings movie.
