MTV
MTV asked newcomer and Best Breakthrough Performance Male nominee Orlando Bloom about how it felt to do the monumental Lord of the Rings as his first real acting gig.
Orlando Bloom: It was my first opportunity.
Iann Robinson: Talk about trial by fire.
Orlando Bloom: Yeah, absolutely, baptism by fire. It was like I was thrown into it, but I was given so many opportunities to sort of explore the areas of my character that I needed in order to kind of make him real. For Pete [Peter Jackson, LOTR's director] to have had the confidence in me, gave me the confidence to go ahead. The first thing they did was stick a bow in my hand, and I started doing archery training and through that I found the character. I found exactly what I wanted him to look like.
Iann Robinson: Your Legolas was great cause he's pissed.
Former child star and Osbournes houseguest Elijah Wood scored a Best Male Performance nomination for his portrayal of Frodo, who MTV's Iann Robinson aptly dubbed the center of the Lord of the Rings universe.
Iann Robinson: Tell me, now that you're a part of history: how does that feel?
Elijah Wood: It's mad. It's mad. It's kind of overwhelming because it's really just hitting me now, I think. We were all tucked away in New Zealand for sixteen months and thought we were on our own little trip and now it's suddenly hitting the world. It's been crazy.
Iann Robinson: Are you at all weirded out by it? There's the nine and everything, but you are the Frodo. You're like the center of the universe right now. Is that crazy?
Elijah Wood: I'm the ring bearer. No, I try to diffuse the pressure amongst everyone else. I don't wanna bear everything, so I try not to bear the weight of the film.
Iann Robinson: Now you are, as I've heard, a huge movie buff and what's really awesome about your career so far is how you've managed to side swipe the whole lame teenage comedy thing. Are you at all afraid of the super limelight being on you now?
Elijah Wood: I think I'm more excited about it than anything. It is kind of frightening because I've never been in that position before. It's always been this kind of gradual move and never anything really massive, but I think this is gonna give me an opportunity to continue doing what I'm doing and open more doors so I can kind of spread my wings a little bit, which will be great.
