Rings Poised to Become King of DVDs

'LORD of the Rings" grossed more than $312-million at the box office - but that's only the beginning. The DVD of the Oscar-winning fantasy movie which hits stores next Tuesday is shaping up as the biggest event yet in the short but very lucrative history of the little disc. "This will be the biggest DVD release of this year and possibly the biggest DVD release ever for us," says David Lang, president and CEO of CD World, a chain with 10 stores in New Jersey.

The "Become An Orc" contest will be open to all attendees of Comic Con International, age 18 and older. An enter-to-win station will be set up at the Lord of the Rings Pavilion during convention operating hours (10:00am - 7:00pm) on Friday, August 2. At the end of the day, one winner will be randomly selected from all entries to return to the Pavilion Saturday morning to have Gino Acevedo (WETA Senior Prosthetics Supervisor) and Jason Docherty (WETA Workshop Supervisor) transform them into an Orc, one of the menacing, evil creatures seen in the film. The transformation process can be witnessed first-hand by the Comic Con crowd as it takes place at The Lord of the Rings Pavilion on Saturday morning from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Ian Holm tells of cancer fight

Sir Ian Holm is fighting prostate cancer, he revealed today. The 70-year-old actor, who plays Bilbo Baggins in the Lord Of The Rings films, was diagnosed with the disease at the end of last year. "It's all strange because I still feel like I'm immortal," said Sir Ian. "I can't believe that I've had something seriously wrong with me."
