Retailers are hoping some of Harry Potter's magic will rub off on them Tuesday, when another fantasy movie goes to video. If it lives up to its hype, The Lord of the Rings could even outstrip the British boy wizard in DVD and VHS sales.

Next week's release of New Line's The Lord of the Rings promises to be one of the biggest title rollouts of 2002. In addition to New York's Central Park being transformed into "Middle-earth" (thanks to the studio marketing department), certain retailers will be offering Ring-themed incentives. Fans of The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and Trading Card Game (TCG) now have even more reason to rejoice. DecipherCon 2002 (October 31 - November 3) will host the world premiere of the new The Two Towers base set – a full-sized, 360+ card expansion set for The Lord of the Rings TCG. Players and collectors alike will be able to purchase the cards in the Decipher store and play with the new cards in special pre-release and constructed tournaments.

Lord Of The Rings beauty Liv Tyler is about to get a new step-dad. Her mom, famed 60s party animal Bebe Buell, is about to tie the knot with rocker Jim Wallerstein, who band Vacationland recently won a Boston Phoenix Music Poll award for best group and best song. Buell, one-time lover of such big names as Jack Nicholson, Elvis Costello, Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop and Jimmy Page, recently published a tell-all book, Rebel Heart: An American Rock'n'roll Journey, detailing her wild exploits with various legendary rockers, including Liv's Aerosmith dad Steve Tyler. Sexy Liv and her rocker fiance Royston Langdon - whose band Spacehog has just split to pursue solo careers - will be in attendance for the August nuptials.
