Troy: Autographs from Garrettt Hedlund and Rose Bryne
posted by Bianca, 06/03/03
Bianca reporting from Malta: Regarding yesterday's Raffle. Well, Orlando was not the cast member who drew the winning ticket. It was Garrett Hedlund and Rose Bryne. I didn't come first, but second, even after buying 10 tickets. But oh well... Rose drew my ticket, and she shook my hand. There was a camera-man, probably for local TV. Garrett Hedlund has a VERY strong resemblance to Brad Pitt. Both cast members were really nice and were giving autographs after the raffle-draw. I got both their signatures. Just to let you know. No news on Orlando at the moment. Here are the autographs from Garrett Hedlund and Rose Bryne

posted by Lisa & Gracielfgirl, 06/02/03
Lisa wrote: Hey just thought I'd let you know the "Pirates of the Carribean" trailer was shown before "The Italian Job." Also, the newest trailer for "Dumb and Dumberer" mocks "Lord of the Rings" at the very beginning; it plays the theme music and goes on about the biggest epic motion picture of the year...which turns out to be "Dumb and Dumberer". And Gracielfgirl wrote in to say that POTC trailer was also attached to "Finding Nemo".

New MTV Movie Award to go to unusual character
USA Today, 06/01/03
When honoring a movie star who doesn't exist, who gets to accept the award? The irreverent, back-slapping MTV Movie Awards was debuting its category for best "virtual performance'' at its 12th annual ceremony Saturday night. MTV says the award goes to the character _ not necessarily the flesh-and-blood actor involved or special-effects team that create it. That means the trophy could be in the little green hands of Yoda from "Star Wars: Episode II _ Attack of the Clones;'' the jabbering marsupial from "Kangaroo Jack;'' the raspy creep Gollum from "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers;'' Dobby the self-torturing elf in ``Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'' or the talking dog from "Scooby-Doo.''

Troy boy Brad
Sunday Mail, 06/01/03
"Not now Jen, I'm off to slay some Trojans." Could this have been what an armour- clad Brad Pitt was saying as he chatted on the telephone on the set of his latest movie? The star has left his wife, Friends star Jennifer Aniston, in the US while he is in Malta filming the £140million epic, Troy. Brad, 39, plays Greek warrior Achilles in the film. His starring role is already tipped to rival the Oscar-winning performance of Russell Crowe in Gladiator. The big-budget extravaganza also stars Scots actor Brian Cox, who plays a giant Greek warrior. Troy, which also stars Peter O'Toole, Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean, tells the story of Helen, who is stolen by Paris from her husband Menelaus, triggering the Trojan War.
Blanchett stars as a high flyer
Herald Sun, 06/01/03
Cate Blanchett is to play Hollywood great Katharine Hepburn in a movie featuring legendary film stars from Hollywood's golden age. Called The Aviator, the movie will follow the life and times of reclusive billionaire filmmaker Howard Hughes.
Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to play Hughes, often referred to as "the world's greatest womaniser", and Kate Beckinsale is likely to take on the role of screen goddess Ava Gardner. The Aviator, which begins filming next month, opens with Hughes making Hell's Angels, his classic 1930 movie about RAF pilot aces.
Interview with POTC director
posted by theJohnny Depp Zone , 05/31/03
Film Journal discusses POTC with Gore Verbinski. "What’s nice about the script is that Orlando and Keira are holding the main storyline, the romantic element and the adventure element, and Johnny’s character gets to be the rogue, what Lee Marvin is in Cat Ballou. He gets to drift through the film affecting everybody, but having his own agenda."

Sir Ian on Orlando
posted by Stacie, 05/29/03
Posted at popdirt.com: From an interview with an American reporter on the release of the Fellowship of the Ring:
Journo: "Don't you think Gandalf should have had a love interest?"
Ian McKellan: "He does my dear. His name is Orlando Bloom"
Update: Barbara wrote in the let us know that a similar (and probably more accurate) quote appeared in The Observer in Feb 2002. "Although I was suggesting to Peter yesterday he should insert some love interest for Gandalf in a later one. He suggested Galadriel... I said, no, I was thinking more of someone like Legolas."

A Star In Bloom
Canada.com, 05/31/03
Over the last decade, Johnny Depp has proven himself to be more than just a pretty-boy actor -- will his Pirates Of The Caribbean co-star (and new babe on the block) Orlando Bloom do the same? Orlando Bloom is at that difficult time in a young star's life -- when he has to prove that he's not just a pretty face, but a decent actor as well.
Christopher Lee interview
The Guardian, 05/31/03
"I cannot wait for Return of the King. It is the climax and people will get an overall picture of Middle Earth and of Tolkien. I want people to appreciate what has been achieved. Before Lord of the Rings, some people would have just classed Peter Jackson as a horror director. But there is a mind there. Somebody once asked me how I found Peter Jackson and I said: 'Well, I parted his hair and there he was'. Look what he has done. He persuaded New Line to invest in making three films at the same time. When I first read Lord of the Rings I wanted to see a film of it. But at that time the technology wasn't there, there was no such thing as CGI."
